The first 3/4 of the episode were very disjointed, lurching between action and then nothing in particular... only for all the best bits to be squeezed into the last 5 or 10 minutes...
Considering amount of hype the Beeb as been throwing at this it was somewhat of a damp squib...
I won't say anymore for fear of ruining it for others.... but hopefully part two will pick up the ball that this one dropped...

!!!! And the rest about as well written, with a brand new alien race and its planet-shaking technology able to provide the writer with a Major Plot Device™ ,both previously unheard of, but it's ok since the gate from the stars was salvaged from Torchwood which had conveniently been destroyed. Not even going near the whole Master Xeroxing thing.

I am afraid the Immortality Gate is mentioned by the Trickster to the Doctor in the Wedding of Sarah Jane, in the 3 and 4 episodes of series 3 of the Sarah Jane Adventures, bit sneaky that though setting up the deux ex machina in the spin-off.

It's the same case of bad fanfic scriptwriting that has plagued every series finale since 2005.

Nope, just the usual stuff. Really, REALLY bad things happen, everyone flips out, the world is DOOMED, then a McGuffin appears out of thin air, and suddenly the world is saved. Seriously, that's Chekhov's Gatling Gun loaded, cocked and ready to fire, with the sudden possibility of undoing the greatest mistake in the series's history since 1963. I sense the very real possibility that the whole Time Lord thing was orchestrated by the Doctor himself. Seriously, give Paul McGann in full steampunk garb a cameo, and my nerdgasm shall pierce the heavens. On the other hand, Jack Harkness could pop out of nowhere, and all of a sudden, everyone turns gay.

In part 2 we will see, how everything will go worse when the Rani, the Cybermen, the Daleks and Darth Vader will appear, and how Rose will safe the world in a very stupid and silly way (maybe she will kiss Barrack Obama and he will turn into the Flying Spaghetti Monster, there must be reason why Obama was in this episode) nobody expected... This was the worst episode since the times of Colin Baker. The best thing is that RTD is leaving.

I just saw it this morning, I had to record it as we were together with the family on christmas. That episode was really bad, and RTD was good for many bad surprises. But he had many good ideas, too. I like Sarah Jane Adventures, and I like all episodes he has done with a low budget. RTDs problem is that he does too much at the wrong moments.

So here we are, with David Tennant's run over. #11 isn't doing a shabby job either. Seems fun so far.

Myself I quite like the idea of the doctor as a bit tortured and alone, it's a good thing to have that added depth and it has been hinted at prior to the current run, (Tom Baker often had a touch of darkness at the edges I think), but really I was actually bored by it in the last ep. Far too much just sitting around being gloomy, nd the silliness was just a bit too silly. I did like the ""hell" speech though.
I'm really looking forward to a Moffat fuelled series, somewhat darker I think, yum. Blink angels, ace.

I haven't seen the second part yet but I found the Xmas day one rather plodding despite the marvellous insanity of the Master.
One nice touch was the scenes of the Master stuffing his face with food given the time of original broadcast

just like an aweful lot of RTD episodes it seems; I'm looking forward to the new Dr now or more accurately the new writer; hopefully less big shiney gubbins and more actual good story plotting.

RTD's problem is that he isn't the best writer on the show, or even the second best etc, but he is the script editor. I would have liked to have seen Paul Cornell write these episodes, (Family of Blood, Father's Day etc, the BBC fell into exactly the same trap as with John Nathan Turner, and they should have told RTD he could not write all of the Specials. Planet of The Dead and The end of Time just did not work, The Next Doctor and The Waters of Mars were better. Two out of five is not good enough.

Big let-down of an episode but then RTD is a pretty uneven writer, so it wasn't a total surprise. I am surprised no one is talking about Rassilon's gauntlet. Pretty fearsome item. Reminds me of another gauntlet, yet the opposite hand if I remember rightly...and the opposite effect I can't comment on Matt Smith's Doctor yet since there's nothing much to base a valid opinion at this point. Farewell RTD! Don't let the door hit your backside on the way out! JIT

didn't rasalon have a beard? and was fat? i seem to recall it from the five doctors....I'm more concerned about the enemy's, i hope that they will have a better reason for dieleks and cybermen and such than an emergency temporal shift. Why does every one hate Colin baker? I liked his stint as the doctor...also I loved that coat

Rasaslon was also long dead, obviously resurrected like The Master.
I just realised Dr Who without the highly variable RTD scripts, at all. RTF fell out with a couple of writers, hopefully they will be back. Anyone notice the reto Daleks in the trailer? Pertwee era grey daleks, and a Davison era white dalek? Are we going to see earlier iterations of the Daleks? Is The Moff trying to keep away from the Timewar and the Timewar Era Daleks?
One unresolved question, the Woman (claire Bloom) and her relationship to the Doctor. The Doctor recognises her and all she says is " she is lost from a long time ago" in answer to Wilf. The candidates therefore are Susan, Romana and the Doctors unnamed and previously unseen timelord wife. Also who was the second Timelord to vote against Rasselon?

I thought it was susan. Would the Master have been the other dissenting Timelord, or did they not ask him?
Also, does the Doctor's cloned daughter count as a Timelord?

Hi All
I'll give you an idea of how the end of time has failed to grip me. I have missed it twice and I'm really not bothered.
I was thinking about it this morning and I began to wonder if the BBC's money wouldn't be better spent re-making some of the older (and often missing) stories.
Just my 2p worth.

I would like to see more of the missing episodes recreated as in The Invasion, the obvious staring point is the two Yeti stories. However the BBC have catergorically stated that they will not do this. However the first missing episodes should go out of copyright in 2014, meaning that unsanctioned use of existing material may be lawfully undertaken by anyone.

But two was much better than part one. That doesn't it make a very good episode, but enough for "average". Good bye, RTD! But the new trailer looks promising. Especially the big brown eyes of Amy Pond...
