Hey guys,

I wanted to announce the official formation of "The Clockwork Process".

This is a side project consisting of myself and Allison Curval of "The Clockwork Dolls".

Our first project together is the soundtrack to the in development steampunk themed adventure title "Shades of Violet".

I have been waiting to announce this collaboration until we had some music recorded to share with the community.
So without further adieu I present to you:

The Clockwork Process - Violet's Theme

The core piano melody was composed by Allison, while I provided all of the other instrumentation and re-arranged her original piece.

Hope you guys enjoy it!

Wow...that was utterly amazing, just like everything else of yours I've hear. Is that all synth. or what do you use to do the sounds. Anywho, keep up the amazing work. Can't wait to hear more of this.

Good lord, that was majestic, heroic, sad and romantic, all at the same time.

Wow.

Thanks very much =)

Yeah it's all reason. But I have a pretty good selection of acoustic and organic sounding instruments. I try to get all of my orchestral elements to sound as natural as possible.

I enjoyed this Smiley

I was reminded in parts of the theme to Jurassic Park though, I'm not sure if it's the use of certain notes and how they're phrased, or whether it's the key, but that was my initial impression. Don't take that as a criticism, just that it sounds gently epic to me Smiley

That's funny, because I covered the theme to Jurassic Park before on an older album lol.

I love that score, one of my favorite from Williams.

For some reason, for me, it's not working. And that is a real shame as I play in a band and always love to hear other people's creations! Not only that, but there are only two people in my band, and we each compose on more than one instrument. Guitar, Bass, Piano, Strings, Horns, Vocals...all sorts.

I hope I can get this song to work later!

Oh you mean you can't hear the track at all?

That's pretty strange, because it's hosted on my own server, so it should be fine. I'll probably be posting it on MySpace in the next few days too.

I hope this means there will be more from the two of you.  I really love The Clockwork Dolls and wish I could get copies of some of their songs to play at work.

It was my fault.

I made the mistake of using Internet Explorer which seems to hate EVERYTHING I try to load at the moment.

Now that I've figured out what the problem was...

The music was beautiful. The blends were astounding, when the drums come in for the first time, you actually FEEL a surge of power inside. Very touching and emotional music that I felt very connected to!

I gave it a listen.  Very good, though I enjoy your other stuff as well.

Looking forward to more!

Oh yes, quite so!

I see a very good collaboration here. We are both very attentive to each other, get our material to each other quickly, and share an unbelievable synergy with our ideas.

I mean for this piece all Allison knew was that it was the theme for the main character of the game. She got a very bare bone synopsis of the plot and background of the world. Then I mentioned that I imagined Violet's theme (and the tone of the whole score in general) to fall somewhere between the works of Joe Hisaishi, Nobuo Uematsu, and Ryuichi Sakamoto. So what did she did, she went and found a ton of material by all of those composers, soaked it all in and wrote this gorgeous piece in a day or so (she also told me she listened to Sakamoto's theme of "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" about 40 times in a row, because she liked it so much).

Then when I got my hands on the piano melody, and a midi of it, I made what you hear above in about 4 hours! Quickest song I've ever worked on.

That's awesome! That was exactly what I was going for with this piece. It's supposed to grab you and pull you into Violet's world. =)

Well you did an excellent job of it! Had I never gotten involved in Steampunk I still would become immersed in such music. I adore it!

Violet's Theme is beautiful! I must admit that I was never a huge fan of Vernian Process, but I really really like this. I'm looking forward to more orchestral music from you. Keep it up!

Thank you! Yeah I think working with another musician is really good for me. All of the old VP material was written by a guy who taught himself to write music, by fiddling around with a piano. So I've never been too good at coming up with good chord changes, or song progression. Occasionally I'll nail it, and I'm really happy, but more often than not I find my songs getting very repetitive and kind of boring.

Same happens to me, only instrument that doesn't act up like that is the guitar and that is because I've finally learnt to improvise on a guitar. So I know how hard it is to write songs  Grin
