It begins with George Bush declaring a state of emergency and putting off the election. This quickly becomes an open ended presidency. War spreads, soon the United States assumes the name and mantle of the United Nations. The world is conquered country by country, each one being invaded and dominatec through a bloody war.
France is not invaded, they surrender pre-emptively in an effort to confuse the Americans, which fails. Switzerland and Ireland are left unconquered.
Both unconquered countries have their own ressisstance armies trying to bring down the UN, they have operatives all across the world and give whatever help they can to ressisstance movements in the conquered countries.
Ireland still has problems, their are two ressistance factions, one in the Republic and one in Northern Ireland, they still sometimes war with each other.
The new Irish capital is the city of New Tara.
