Greetings fellow Portlandians... sorry to be so late to the party- I forgot my password and the site would not e-mail me my password so I finally had to re-register. Some of you may know me as a sea pirate from these parts (BTW Plunderathon is June 14th), or from Orycon. I like to play in different 'verses.

Well at any rate, it is nice to see you all getting together...and I apologize for missing you. Hope to see you at the next meet up- When is it? I didn't see it in this thread, something about Centralia?

If any of you would be up for a Camping trip (or even a day trip to the forest 10 minutes from Salem) some Burning Man friends and I are putting together a Steampunk wild, wild, west styled tea parlour theme camp called "sTEAp:  Moonbeam and Stormfeather's Cozy Tea Parlour" at the Portland Regional Burning Man camp out called SOAK June 27-29.  Info on SOAK here www.burningmanportland.com. You'd be welcome to join us. feel free to PM me if you have any questions about SOAK...

I have connected with the Bomb Bay Tea Co. and if the fates allow we may be neighboring camps at Burning Man in August.

As I mentioned earlier, I will not be joining you. So you better have some extra fun for me.
I would like to do another food/beverage type meetup sometime soon. But I am all out of ideas.

If anyone is going to Peter Murphy, look for me Smiley

Wow, lots of posts, and some new faces!  Stormfeather, I have seen your name around (I occasionally lurk on some of the pirate lists), and your steamy tea camp sounds most exciting!  Thank you for the invitation, and I think we should all plan on coming down to visit, at least for the day...sounds like it would be a marvelous fun outing!  (PS do you know anything about the sailing vessel docked at the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge?)

Steampirate, the croquet party is held later in the summer, and plans have not been finalized as far as I know.  Info will be posted here as it is available.

LibelandSlander, I am sorry you will not be with us in Centralia, but I also would like another tea or pub meet.  How do folks feel about a casual meet on Saturday, June 7?  Tea or pub?  I have a few ideas...

Mr. Crowe, I meant to send you some links for clothing establishements...try http://www.riverjunction.com or http://gentlemansemporium.com .

Regards,
Mrs. S

Thank you for the welcome!

SHIPS! in PDX
---------
the Nina is the ship docked at the SE Madison Street Pier (east side Esplanade) by the fire station.
The caravel tall ship was hand built in Belize using 15th century methods, is a replica of Columbus' favorite ship.
She is in town until June 1st. $5.00 adults.
Worth a look see. It is quite pretty. I asked the captain why the ship says Wilmington, De on the stern.
He said it is the cheapest place in the US to register a boat!
http://www.thenina.com/

If you get a chance to see the ships pre-Rose Festival take advantage of the lack of crowds the Lady Washington and the Hawaiian Chieftain will be docked at Salmon
Street Springs May 29- June 4th or 5th(?).
Here is the schedule http://www.historicalseaport.org/store/step1.php
http://jurassicjoe.com/pages.php?p=attractions#tall-sailing-ships

Some of you might remember Lukas Efler from Switzerland, who fell from the main mast in an accident while the Lady was in Ilwaco WA, two years ago. I was crewing aboard the Lady that week. After a long recovery he is returning to the Lady this year with his girlfriend for a few weeks. I just got a phone call from Lukas, and am looking forward to showing them around Portland for a few days before they set sail.

Tacoma Tall ships July 3-7 is the big show... Here is the website...http://www.tallshipstacoma.com/
ships include the Bounty, The Lynx, The Eagle and of course the Lady and the Hawaiian Chieftain. And of particular interest to Steampunks a large steamship! Nautical entertainment- SeaFaire Pirates, Chanty singers and craft faire. Must buy a pass to board the ships- Unfortunately long lines to see the ships too.

PIRATES
----------
There is much Steampunk/Pirate crossover even here I see. Well I especially enjoy the 18th c but the 19th is fun too.

For Portland Metro Pirate events see www.pdxpirate.org. Next pirate meet up is Friday June 6th. See claendar site above.

PLUNDERATHON is Saturday, June 14th: meet at the fountain in Saturday Market at NOON.
It's an all day pirate raid of downtown bars (21 and over only). I'll be helping with the Cabin Boyo contest at the Crown Room about 6ish.  We still need candidates! and corseted ladies "as props" for the uncorseting part of the contest. No ladies (or corsets) will be harmed in that event. PM me if interested.

SOAK:
---------
the Portland Burning Man Regional- yes, please come have a cup of brown joy with us! The tea parlour will be "officially" open 2-5 pm Saturday but it will probably be open more, and there will be evening games! Watch the www.burningmanportland.com site for updates or pm me if you have questions. The site is located 10 minutes form Salem, they don't publish the directions until the week of because it is private land. Day tripping cost approx 10. and yes you'll be able to stay for the evening burn if you daytrip.

CROQUET?
------------
a Cacophony Society friend of mine holds Mondo Croquet each year in Portland in the park blocks.
Of course you would all be welcomed. Bring a mallet! here are the pictures:http://home.comcast.net/~playaitch/mon7.htm

From the Portland Steampunk myspace page:

Steampunk Invasion of Centralia

So far our Portland Steampunk Crew has kept their raiding to their own native haunts, but now it has come time to spread the Gospel of Steampunk beyond our borders and make a reconnaissance in force. Centralia,  Washington is the chosen target and all of the plethora of antique shops that lie within this sleepy, unsuspecting town.

Saturday the 31st of this month (this coming Saturday) is the target date. Forces shall gather at The Chateau Iniquitious (2423 NE 11th st. in Portland) by 11 am. Proper adventurers or militant attire is encouraged as we raid our way up the great road north and shop large quantity of antique shops in search of Steampunk gadgets and accessory trinkets.

Join our raiding force and share in the fun chaos and LOOT!!!

Along with our group, Sinjin will be leading a steampunk force down from Seattle in a second front, to help outflank any yupees, retirees, or any other overly-ambitious little old ladies, from getting any goodies before we have a chance to look them over. This will put us just over a dozen steamies for the weekend's adventure.

okay, i was reading about the Portland meetup and saw the thing about the "victorian croquet party. this sounds promising but there are no exact dates or anything. it would be good if this were to be explained.

The "Victorian Croquet and Champaign Party" is put on by Sean O'Sirin and his friends. They usually find a date near the end of August. He'll post the specifics, as soon as he can organize the event. Sean will get a permit from the city, to hold a picnic at the park (..including having beer..), and then start rounding up folks to help.

We usually get around 18 to 20 folks, but this has been growing, as word gets around. We do ask folks to dress the part: Victorian thru late Edwardian attire, if they want to participate. Folks not dressed accordingly are asked to leave. This is an event to display your finest outfits and accessories.

This might sound a bit "snootish", but we put a lot of work into the event so that everyone can have a good time.

As for myself, I see no reason why we can't be a little "snootish" from time to time.  Wink

May I say, "Wooohooo!"
Looking forward to meeting you all.

And may I comment how amusing I find it that we are using a thread titled with "Winter Edition" now that it is nearly June?

Likewise on meeting everyone on Saturday. Should be fun. Has anyone checked to see if there are any conventions or events scheduled for Centralia that may conflict with our outting. My brother booked a hotel room for prom where they were holding a midget convention. The funny part is, he's 6'6"...

Don't think there's much to worry about there. The average day's activity in Centralia can largely be summed up as "Sittin' on the porch watchin' the cows." With a population of around 15K, it's not exactly a sprawling metropolis or tourist destination.

In fact, I've lived in Washington most of my life, and this will be the first time I have ever specifically, intentionally gone to Centralia.

LOL......I think WE are going to be the big event for that weekend - a perfect excuse to doff one's hat when the situation calls for it, strolling at a leisurely pace with one's walking stick in hand.

Getting up Saturday morning..................................

Was out late with Sean & Co., at the Mt Tabor Goth club, Dementia.

Word was passed along about meeting at Sean's and car pooling north.

Sinjin and the Seattle Task Force are already on their way to Centralia, if not already there. The PDX steamies are such slackers!!!

Have a list of items to look for, to include a few small items for folks who can't get away to join our expedition today.
