Most humanoid cartoon characters have 4 digits. This because it looks better (draws easier) I guess the person who made the 6 legged octopus took that same artistic freedom.
Oh, and the rest of the short movie makes perfect sence? Walking squid? Jumping from pool to pool? Pulling the hand break?  Grin

There are some who feel that if they had longer life spans, they could actually reach our level of intellect and beyond.  So who knows...maybe it is a glimpse at future evolution.   Grin

Personally I'm a firm believer in great old leviathans living in the depths. There's still so much yet to explore, and so much freaky evidence has washed up over time. As well as the myriad of reported sightings. They're down there all right, and it may well be a good idea to leave them be. Cheesy

And then there's the distributed-processing neural architecture...
I also feel obliged to mention HP Lovecraft's writings right about now.

Cuttlefish are so cute!  I'm not sure why I feel that way.  Maybe it's the name...it's so close to "cuddle."   Grin

I feel exactly the same way! I love cuttlefish and have ever since I was a kid. There was a little ocean computer game that I had back in the day where you played a cuttlefish that swam around under the sea trying to find starfish to eat and trying to avoid getting eaten by sharks. I loved that game...wish I knew what it was called so I could play it again!

I wonder why the octopus is preferred to the giant squid as the cliched Steampunk icon (given the Verne allusions).

Myself, I only like using octopus iconography when the tentacles serve a purpose...on a chatelaine to hang bits and bobs, on a hat stand to hold hats, etc.

I wouldn't say it's preferred necessarily, but I think we can lay a great part of the blame on this...

Too true, Master Fairbrass.

And just a moment ago I randomly stumbled across an old thread: Cuddle-Fish! I need one!

I think it's because an octopus's head is much more compact, so when it's abstracted to an icon the tentacles and eyes are much more prominent. With a squid, due to the long thin body, in an icon image you would lose the detail in the tentacles and it simply doesn't have the same effect.

In a more realistic image, of course, I think a good artist can actually make a squid look much more malevolent than an octopus.

It's probably because of the cuttlefish's colour-shifting ability. It starts dancing and flickering and strobing and you watch the swirling patterns of colour and the effect is completely mezmeri... mezm... Shocked

True, the octopus has that beetling brow to offset the squid's lance-like body, so maybe it's a wash — they're equally malevolent, but differently malevolent...
