I finished this a while ago, but haven't gotten around to posting pictures until now

This electromagnetic pistol was my first steampunk build. The copper coil around the barrel accelerates an iron cored projectile to deadly speeds in complete silence.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The projectiles are loaded by sliding open the cover on top (I really should have taken a picture with the cover closed as well.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The pic doesn't show it very well, but the cross set into the grip can be used as a defense against vampires.

I spotted one of these last week. Made by hap-p-kid. Its a kind of knife becoming pistol. With light and sound effects.

I've just finished a basecoat of copper, given it a bit of a worn/burnt look and now looking to paint some of it's features and punk it. Will post final result.

I'm thinking some kind of single shot bowie electo-knife.  Cheesy

I have one of these myself, picked up on a whim, but have no idea what to do with it now. I'll be intrigued to see your results.  Smiley

I saw this one in the toy aisle for the first time last week:

I know many here dislike plastic toy repaints, but this really looks like it would make a fine starting point for a mod.

I have to agree with you there. my thoughts would be to lose the shoulder grip and use some contrasting metal colours - maybe copper for the inner or outer part of the barrell. I would also consider making a belt or backpack mounted  'power source'. Nice find.

Here is a Picture when I just started
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Here it is after I got the Paint off of it and added some of the rivets and most of the Accessories

And here it is painted. I still need to add rivets around the Barrel and  a couple more Items

I know some of you hate nerf guns, but I found this online...

It's only $13, and looks like it could easily be steampunk'd.

Usually, one is forced to write "This post is useless without PICTURES!", but in this case "these pictures require a description" would be better...

I'm assuming it's a paintball gun, and a magificent one, at that!

I picked up one of these, myself, though I'm thinking of upgrading it for better screen accuracy, rather than steaming it.  But who knows.

I'm putting the paint work to a recently finished ray-gun type of thing, inspired by some exciting work recently revealed online, but I'm a little embarrassed to post it.  It... vibrates.

Certain components remain unpainted.  Even if I know its water proof paint, do I really want to try and convince anyone of that?

Herr Doktor,

You would be right! It is known as the Jules Verne A-5, here is my description from another board:

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Behold, from the nether reaches of our vast continent,
I give you a wonder of technical prowess!
A revolutionary weapon of the ages!

Commissioned by your’s truly, Obadiah Yardley,

Handcrafted in his secrete lair, by the pnumaticist and artisan of the mysterious and shadowy
“Underground Modification Shop”
Know only as “Campester Versus Sursum” or “B”
Comes this exquisite
Semi-automatic rifle in an extraordinary .68 caliber
Adding to its revolutionary mystique is the fact that it is completely pneumatically powered!
In that said, cartridges are expelled using nothing more than air!
Lavishly adorned with splendiferous accoutrements!
A truer Gentlemen’s rifle you will not find this side of the Atlantic, not even the Czar himself has one such as this!

At .68 cal you can use it as a non-lethal home defense weapon, just substitute paintballs for pepperballs (.68 paintballs filled with PAVA, ie, capsaicin) which explode on impact engulfing the target with hot pepper powder.  They are a bit pricey at the manufacturing site ( http://www.pepperball.com/pdf/PTILEPROJQ205.pdf ) but can be bought from other sellers on Ebay who make them for much less.  There are no restricted sales in the USA except for those few communities which do not allow the purchase of mace/pepper spray/etc.  From personal experience I can tell you they work as advertised in closed environments, but less effectively in the open air. markf

Recent doings at work have involved me being upclose and personal with some mid 1800's flintlock and hammerlock firearms including the venerable "Brown Bess" musket.

My brain is now full of ponderings about scratch building a firearm.  Sitting in the garage I have three compressions springs from 130mm travel mountain bike forks, which scream to be incorporated into a lever cocking longarm firing the venerable foam dart.  In keeping with the bespoke nature of the weapon I intend scratch building darts also, but working with a calibre which might enable newer off the shelf ammunition to be utilised as well.

What could be more old school than lever cocking a bell ended blunderbuss and then pushing the round home with a tamping rod?

Problem being,  standard narrow muzzle musket has the tamping rod slung under the barrel on brass fittings and you slide it in from the front.  With a bell ended weapon, this is not a viable solution, so where and how should one mount the tamping rod for easy access?  Obviously, while the newer repeating weapons hold little attraction to me, somewhat timely reloading is a valuable feature to have when fending off sky pirates and the like.

You'd be able to slide the ramrod in and out if you drilled a hole in the bell to accomodate it.  If you wanted to get really clever, you could solder a spacer onto the end of the rod that fit it snug around the edge of the hole, sealing it up when the ramrod was fully stowed.

The hole wouldn't have to allow the foot of the rod to fit through - the user could slide it out of the stock until the foot cleared, and then feed it back through the hole in the bell.  It'd take longer than just yanking it straight out, but I reckon if you're using a musket in a world that has more modern firearms, you're only planning to have to get off one shot.

Markf:

I have toyed with the idea, but in reality the JV is a monster to lug about as it requires a 3 to 5 lb Co2 tank to operate, however I would be able to rain vengeance down upon any ner-do-well who would seek to venture into the line of fire, as the JV is capable of a sustained 23 balls per second!

Where did you find this? And how much was it? I don't think I've ever seen this version of Boba Fett's gun before but it does indeed look ripe for modding.

I have seen it at target...I'll warn you all it is about 2/3rd's the size of the real thing.  the boba blaster was modeled on the webely flare gun, can't remember which model.  You can find resin ones on ebay every once in awhile that are the full size...and I find resin easier to modify and sturdier.  But this one is a great cheap alternative screaming for a fun mod.
