Unfortunately, or fortunately budget wise, I am unable to attend the swap meet. Blasted mutants, perhaps I need to make something to "cure" the mutant problem, making good use of the time not attending.

I may try to make it down to Camberwell on Sunday, although with my sisters engagement party on Saturday and an open bar, it is a tad up in the air.

Best of luck and good hunting everyone.

Gina & I will be at Camberwell market tomorrow, if you bump into Maduncle he now has my mobile number...otherwise look for the weird man carrying the black umbrella. The Steampump event in May is going great guns so if people are at the market & want to catch up for a coffee or have ideas etc...black umbrella... recognition code is "the canary sings with it's fingers"

Please destroy this signal by ingesting it once memorized

Best regards

See - the problem was we had friends over for dinner last night and went to bed late so I did not log on and check posts on the forum or emails, so Tanya and I were at the Camberwell Market today and we failed utterly in meeting our social obligations - I am very sorry!

Meanwhile - picked up a couple of useful parts and some Kodak bits for my collection (see 'Flea market finds' thread). the market was a bit 'off' today - I put it down to the publicity the market recently got. Things that seem to have changed were:

1/. Loads of people lining up to get a casual site (must have seen the promo and wanted in on the sales opportunities it would create).
2/. Loads more clothes (maybe clothes were mentioned in the promotion).
3/. A few missing regular stall holders (probably having a break after Fryerstown).
4/. Higher prices (once again - the promo).

I might need to wait a couple of months for all of the hullaballoo to die down so the market can return to normal.

Meanwhile meanwhile - I am definitely going to Epping Swap Meet next week on Sunday 7th (if I am a little grumpy, well - it is the 7th), and Yarra Glen the following Sunday 14th February (that was the best market of the year for bits last year).

I talked to David The Radio Guy, who said Epping Swap Meet is *expletive deleted*, and Berwick Swap Meet, which is on the Saturday before it (6th of Feb) is much better. So I thought...I'll go to both  Grin Anyone else feel like accompanying me at Berwick?

While you're there, you can go over and have a look at the Berwick steam clock.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Not sure what I'll be able to get to in the way of swap meets. Although I'll stop working these long hours this week, I have a huge backlog of things to do during my break. Berwick I can probably manage, Epping, maybe. Yarra Glen is out, it's the day of my 20th wedding anniversary, and I would like to have a 21st.  Grin

I'm going to have to be careful though, if I keep working these sort of hours I'm going to start looking like a Morlock, and I may find myself on the wrong end of one of Maduncle's rayguns!

By some crazy random happenstance I have attained a ride to the Yarra Glen swap meet. Having never gone I am sure it'll be a great and budget breaking event.
Perfectly timed as I have finally started on my first, not quite a ray not quite a slug thrower, offensive device.

The worst part about the epping swap meet is I am still working during it's hours of operation on Sunday. Sad  But enjoy the first Sunday morning train knowing I would have just stepped off the carriage only minutes prior. Undecided

I might just be at the Berwick meet (said he, barging into the thread uninvited) as I live in the area.

During the meanwhile...

I hope Berwick was a good swap meet for all who attended.

I am sleeping soonish, as I plan to be at Epping nice and early.

You can find me there via -

Berwick was fantastic. Unfortunately, a little trouble has arisen, so I will have to use trains to get there, which means it will take me at least 2 1/2 hours to arrive, starting at the first train. I will see you when I see you (and I won't be surprised if you have bought everything! Grin)

Having seen the Wolfman, I can say it's rather sub par a film. It has some nice Victorian era visuals, as well as a STEAM BUS!! but otherwise not very steamified more historical horror. BUt other than that it's quite slow to start and a little predictable. BUT IT HAS A STEAM BUS!! so it may be worth an attendance.

It seems more then a few people have said similar things about The Wolfman which is a tad disappointing, but we will soldier on.

Hmmm storms on the horizon for Sunday, may not be making it to the swap meet unfortunately Sad

What???

Storms on the horizon just means more brass for the stout of heart.

I will be at the Yarra Glen Swap Meet for the opening at eight am with a sturdy brolley and an empty backpack!

Last years was the best single days source of parts for the year - so who knows what this year could bring.

I will still make it everything going to plan, needing a few pieces for my current project. I wonder where my umbrella is.

Hopefully the impending rains will drive off those hoping to deprive us of our brass fix.

While my heart is still stout, I am relying on others to get there, and due to them having commitments earlier in the day, I will not be there until...11? Or so...Vexing, but not the end of the world.

I shall be getting there around 9. Which seeing as I am awake at 4am seems a tad lazy.
Then I feel a day of trying to be productive is in order. Either working on costumes or making a firearm whilst cleaning up my bombsite.

Good bounty there Robert - and jolly nice to meet you.

As for my photo of what I got (and what Rowan got and what Hallward got) visit the 'Flea market Finds' post in tactile.

And for what you can do with old brass Rega pumps...

Ray gun with Rega pump body.

Ray long arm with Rega pump barrel and cut down stirrup holder rebated into the stock and used to hold the barrel in place.

Great stuff Robert, I love the oddly shaped Rega pumps and sprayers. A shame I got there to late to meet you, but I am sure there will be other opportunities (Steampump, for one!)

I have to say for my first swap meet it was all kinds of fun sooo much to be seen and bought. I feel I shall need to attend a few more as opposed to the Camberwell market from now on. My parents also enjoyed it which was a good sign for lifts in the future :3 Despite their repeated statements of disappointment due to a lack of doughnuts.
