Hello old chap, lots have been happening since ive been away!
Absolutletly spelndiferous piece of work.
Now one needs to create a film script to use the afformentioned item.
Do you suppose this could also be used underwater? Dual purpose and all that.I know of a few Saturation divers who are mad enough to try it out!
Well done

Mr. Voltaic: I made the tanks 'dirtier' by drybrushing them with various dark brassy metallic and black paints until the desired effect was achieved- it's a simple technique that gives good results while being quick and rather fun!

Mr. Faust: Much as I enjoy the making, it's the finishing of a projsct and being able to rest easy with a glass of port while surveying my work that I enjoy best...

...until I notice something that could bear a little more tinkering, and then it's bace to my workshop!

Ironman: the idea of a multi-prpose helmet has been mooted before, so it's distinct possibility!

how does a self-respecting Steampunk get to another world..?]

Lovely though that is, Mr. Tanuki, my idea of a Steampunk space vessel can be found here...

A laudable technique, I am sure, but perhaps I was unclear--I had been asking about the pipes which lead to the tanks, and how you achieved the finish on them. Not that I object in the least to knowing another ingenious weathering technique, of course.

...until I notice something that could bear a little more tinkering, and then it's back to my workshop!

Though I cannot yet relate to the glass of port, I know well the feeling of "Ah, yes, it is finally finished--how wonderful to be done at last! And now I can--oh, fiddlesticks, back to the old workbench!" I cannot think of a project of mine which has not included that step one or more (usually more) times.

Capital, sir! Capital! I humbly await the full-sized version, against which event I may just have to build my own space-suit.

Oh, the pipes! That was easy, I cleaned/polished them with a Scotchbrite pad, and time and the air gave the copper a nice patina! No effort required, my kind of weathering!

Nor me, all part and parcel of being a perfectionist!

I see, good sir...Truth to be told, I have a period of resting easy, as well, but for me it tends to be rather short Wink

While wandering aimlessly in a 'Garden Centre, I came across a large acrylic Victorian cloche style propagator, and thought that it would be a terrific start for a Steampunk space helmet, if only I could find a suitable way to mount it to the shoulders; then I found a large polypropylene planter, in a gunmetal finish:
Amazing where a simple idea can blossom isnt it!
I had been watching this thread but fell out of touch with the forums with the whole outage deal.

Let me just say (as though it hasnt been said before) WOW!!!
That is an absolutely amazing piece of work!!!

Utterly stunning sir. The amount of work you've put into this is amazing. The detailing, the paintwork, the use of everyday objects...

Words fail me. Bravo!!

It just doesn't matter how many times I see it, it still knocks my socks off (which is not a good thing to happen in the vacuum of space).  markf

O most Riveting of Doctors, have you made the acquaintance of our dear Herr Doktor's Celestial Sphere yet?  If not, please permit me to introduce you to his more recent work, which his most excellent Space Helmet so very nicely complements:

It would appear that an oceanic/aetheric suit, which would work marvelously with this brilliant space helmet, is being prepared by our very own Mr. Pat Regan.  His project has been posted at http://brassgoggles.co.uk/bg-forum/index.php?topic=70.msg248615#msg248615

Alas, it is Mr. Spectre building that suit, and his work is far inferior to that of Mr. Regan and Herr Doktor.
