I wonder if it would look less "Robbie the robot" if the flared lip of the planter was gone?

the tanks look excellent!

Your project keeps on getting better and better. The tank holders are great.  I love those round plastic ends over the screws.  Very steamy.

I was unsure about the horizontal tanks at first. After seeing them though, I think it was a good call. However, I believe the flange about the top of the planter should stay. If you cut that off, it will be readily apparent how thin the material really is. As it stands now, it looks like a cast iron piece. The velcro for nose scratching is a good idea, though I am at a loss for where to put it. The "pipe-dock with mini bowl helmet" idea is golden. Maybe have the mount rotate so from the outside you can swing the mouthpiece-tube up or stow it away. Once you have the helmet, you're gonna need the rest of the suit.

And you're gonna need to produce a few of these so I may aquire one- I mean, so you might have a landing party and not merely exploring solo.

I already have the appropriate goggles.

I´d still say the tanks should be vertical, exactly to show they are for breathing.

Don't be silly, everyone knows that vertical tanks are either for flogiston or overcompensation
of one's (ahem) shortcomings.   Wink

Don't know about over the pond on your side. But on this one the big box home  remodeling stores have an assortment of hoses and tubing that style only not in rubber but vinyl comes from 3/4" and up. it would have to be painted a suitable color but it is fairly cheap. the also sell the replacement shop vacuum hoses.
Also at the swimming pool stores it is used for filter hoses etc. And they have it in different sizes.
Some of the cheap novelty toys have hoses in small dia like large drinking straws in the cups.
Some of the auto radiator hoses were corrugated like that and came up to three feet. But can get pricey in the smaller sizes.

Okay that b/w picture is kind of disturbing. Is that meant to be some kind of underwater doctor?

Looks like an early "Escape suit" used to get out of damaged submarines.

It looks like Hannibal Lecter meets Darth Vader. Though he looks less than amused to be photographed in that... Like a cat wearing one of those lampshade no-bite collars.

More likely a version of the Mine Safety appliance oxygen generating devices for escape. We had later versions on board ship. For fighting fires, great looking monstrosity of a device. Gas mask looking thing with hose and canister
And rubber lung looking things. In the 70's before they started using the scuba type tanks.

You can find hoses like this on most gas masks, like the one in my little picture to the left Smiley although you cant see it so well there.
But beware! some old gas masks with hoses like that have asbestos in the filter! So try not taking apart an old gas mask and just find spare gas mask filter connection hoses on ebay Smiley
Thats if you decide to use hoses like that Wink

Having recovered from the Dinosaur Safari, I've been back in the Lab, and here's where I am today:

Notice the regulating valve, the open end of pipe will have a pressure gauge mounted; and the added rivets to the tanks; also note the brass mount on the shoulder- this is to carry the flexible brass hose from the valve to the control box on the front of the helmet.

Which I haven't made yet.  Embarrassed

More later!

Are you going to make a suit to go with it?

The raygun, well Steam Pistol, is a stalled project, but it WILL get finished, one day!

Need to find a nice set of overalls for the suit, but I'll finish the helmet first! Cheesy

Even without the suit, it's still a very spiffing project. If you're the classy arch villain type, though, what about wearing it with just Victorian pants, coat and waistcoat, and maybe add a pair of large black rubber "scientist" gloves...
