There don't seem to be many tutorials mentioned, so I've written my own! http://singularphotography.com/Goggles/I'm planning to do a photoshoot and having trouble sourcing props, so I've started constructing my own - next up I'm planning a keyboard and display (built from scratch, very steam-punk but totally non-functional). Also, my first post, so Hi! Cheers, Tom Oh, nice tutorial. I might be using that soon. Thanks for sharing it!

I'm going to have to use that as a base and try and improve on the design(like a leather nose guard or something like that rather than chain). Also going to have to do something for darkened glass or something else for the lenses(though I do have...no wait i don't, old glasses yes, but i will not cannibalize them.

hopefully someone can tell me what type of google/where to find them, can be seen in one scene in sky captain and the world of tomorow. they can be clearly seen in Chapter 9 at the 0:47:16 mark. basically (as I can't find a picture) they look like round sunglasses with sideshields, and for the life of me I can't find any information on these at all.

Just wanted to say "Hi", to thank you for your inspiration (I'm starting work on my own goggles a week from Friday!), and to share a couple pieces of useful information. 1) Ebay turns out to be a phenomenal source for clockworks. I just won a bid on a beautiful lot of clock wheels, they should be arriving soon and I can hardly wait! 2) Flava Flav has fascinating eyewear:

I got them from the store where I work. I'm not sure of the brand... I can check when I go in tomorrow though. I think they might be some division of Rubies Costumes...

A little bit of paint here, a bit of dry brushing there, and a few brass screws put in for texture and they would be VERY punkish.

I got some new lovelies just the other day:
Lovely! I have that same pair of goggles, although mine have mirrored lenses. I use them while dremel tooling. That wig is quite fetching on you. Perhaps this should be your avatar image here on the forum. Hrm... you've inspired me to do some steampunkish photo shoots this evening...

Heehee, yep I thought perhaps it was appropriate, so I went ahead and resized it as such. Yay photoshoots! PS: I miss Atlanta and all of you guys.

Greetings, all, and thank you for myriad ideas for eyewear...
Has anyone here done research into having prescription lenses fitted into their goggles? Just curious -- $100 is a bit high for me for costuming (times being what they are, and we being men of the world...), but if they also could be used as prescription eyewear, then, that's a different budget...
Much thanks,
Axis

Did research, but sense I usually wear my contacts, never followed through...Big YMMV... Global Eye Glasses has a "send your old frame" option. In emailing a rep, they seemed to think they could do something for standard 50mm welding goggle lenses. Needed a bunch of info though I didn't have at the time.

It seems to me that the main difficulty would be in the positioning of the lenses - they're quite a bit farther from the eyes than regular glasses would sit.

That would be the bunch of "Different info I didn't have at the time" Sadly, I just destroyed one of my pairs of goggles in a moment of carelessness. Fortunately, my other pair is fine and almost finished.

Nrrr....
While the idea of wearing glasses made from bicycle gears, the appearance really didn't do him any credit. I'd suggest making them out of smaller gears, I imagine.

Not that I am one to take sides with Mister Flav in much of any situation. I will say that, in that photo, what you are actually see is not his teeth, but rather a set of gold plated tooth covers, that he is wont to wear on most occasions.

Why, I do believe that you are correct, sir. However... The fact remains that the crack has caused some serious brain damage in that poor fellow.
