The thing that makes steampunk music so strong is it's eclectic nature. We appeal to a vast audience and we are starting to make the transition to non-steampunk defined enthusiasts. We are definitely seeing a UK Steampunk sound emerging which bodes well and could catapult the movement out into the public domain. Of course I would love this as my band Metropolis really want to take over the world! Ha ha!  Wink

Are there many UK 'Steampunk' groups? Everyone championing the genre seems to be across the pond. I work in a south London music venue and I'm developing an unhealthy obsession with all of this. I'd really love to start putting on theme nights, maybe even all-day events too. I'm just wondering whether it would work.

London acts? Yes! US!

Also i have a chap hop persona called Master Dastardly, its kind of anachronistic if not steamy and you can listen to a couple of tracks here and download them for free too:

I don't think this one has been mentioned over on this thread (noting this is a rather old thread):

Strange Artifact, is the only self declared Steampunk band in Japan (that I'm aware of).
http://www.strangeartifact.jp/

The band members, MaRy and 310Jet mostly operate out of Tokyo but the do cross the Pacific every now and then (see attached video). They are part of the emerging canonical Steampunk movement represented by the Tokyo Steampunk Society (See this thread for Steampunk in Japan: http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,38619.0.html)
