Airship Pirate
Lyrics by Robert Brown
Copyright 2008

Fires high and the airbags tight,
foods low but the skies are bright.
Props spinning all through the night,
…we're low on cash but seen another target.

Goggles down, cannons up.
My blood starts pumping as I drain my cup.
I give the wheel a spin and turn this girl around,
We're way above ground and we're closing on our target!

Flying Jib is filled with air
East India ships filled with despair,
we even up, her broadsides bare
…our cannons flair but it’s just a show of muscle.

Steady on, she doesn’t need to burn.
She tries to flee, she tries to turn.
Grappling fire, we latch her hull.
…she’s starting to roll, but we’ve got her on a leash!

Chorus:
With a crew of drunken pilots, We’re the only Airship Pirates!
We’re full of hot air and we’re starting to rise
We’re the Terror of the skies, but a danger to ourselves now.

Expendable crew starts to reel her in.
Our swords are sharpened and we're ready to sin.
I’m 3 miles up, we're about to swing aboard.
My tethers made of leather so I’m not about to fall here.

A swish of air and my boots hit deck.
No cash, no fuel, no – not a speck!
Grape shots made this bird a wreck.
And a glance below deck shows a crew of nuns and orphans!

Chorus:
With a crew of drunken pilots, We’re the only Airship Pirates!
We’re full of hot air and we’re starting to rise
We’re the Terror of the skies, but a danger to ourselves now.

On your myspace, it says, "Were a crew of drunken Pirates, we're the only Airship Pirates". I knew that couldn't be right...

Seeing as we have a large fleet of Zeppelins here on the forum, with various Overlords, Admirals, Captains and crew, you have a point there, Kiskolou.

Let's invite the Ophelia to join our airship pirate navy!  Cheesy

Pirate navy? Quite hypocritical. The U.S.S Airkraken comes and goes as it pleases, thank you.

Hmm, do the sky pirates have a pirate code when it comes to two or more airships meeting each other to parley, like sea-based pirates do?  Grin

Well, yes, but they're really just guidelines.

And really, i was commenting on the repeating of Pirates. Not the only part.
But that too.

I agree with The Hat.
OK, not at all relevant, but I've been wanting to say that for some time!

Robert, the songs are wonderful, and I as well, will be ordering the new album as soon as I can.

You are most welcome! So I did pop over and order up a copy (as well as physical copies of your other three albums, as I had only the i-tunes versions) and I must say Abney Park's website is so much fun to navigate and looks simply smashing! I eagerly await your playing anywhere near Colorado, or I warn you Sir, I shall be forced to repeat my "Birthday-Concert-Jet Setting" adventure and just travel to where you are! Wink

I am loving the Airship Pirate song now, though.

The orchestral parts really get my adventure instincts rushing  Grin

Glad to hear it!  Ya know, members of Abney Park fought against that orchestration tooth and nail. Not all of 'em, mind you, but a couple thought French horns have no business being in a song like that.

"But thats what makes it sound heroic!" I yelled.

Then I stormed upstairs and locked my cabin door.

Would you wonderful people grace Europe with your presence at one point in the future? I would certainly attend a concert with my entire crew. And no, I'm not a pirate. I'm with the Kaiserliches Luftschiffkorps.

Would be great.

Oh, Albrecht, I sincerely hope that the Württemberg is no Schnitzelzeppelin (also known as Imperial German supply vessel). I'd doubt it anyway, seems to be another sideways time distortion. Wrong Kaiser compared to my universe.

In deed. It has all something to do with string theory.
And I'm not piloting a supply vessel, I'm in charge of an armed expeditionary craft.

Thank you for agreeing with me Beeman! But I suppose, in this case, I must agree with you!  Grin I am a huge fan of yours, Cap'n Rob. Dear Ophelia is my current favorite, but I look forward to listening to your new adventures soon!
