Why do they always obfuscate the screws?

I'm wondering if anyone here has made an aviator's cap from the pattern in SPM #3 and would have any pictures of their work?  I've only gotten as far as cutting out pieces for a mock-up to make sure that I don't waste the nice leather that I have for the project, and it seems to me as though there's some gathering in that needs doing while sewing a few of the pieces together.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a skirt, it's a kilt; and ye ken why it's called a kilt?  Because I kilt everyone who called it a skirt.

You won't get far trying to argue semantics with an English major.

Started one and got fed up very quickly trying to sew leather by hand and getting anything that resembles a clean stitch was a real pain in the @$$ ! However the pattern seemed to look like it would be alright. I am actually working on getting the Singer out of storage. A friend of mine is an armorer and he suggested that I make a pattern by pulling a stocking on to my head and using masking tape to get an exact internal shape of my head. This is going to be something that will require some help from a friend. I'll let you know how that turns out as time permits.
