Yeah I love that video. I think it's pretty old now, I first ssaw it a few months ago on Anachrotech, but I think someone said it's from the early 2000's

Actually when I joined the board and found out about "steampunk music" as created by mr Vernian Process and others, I immediately thought of this video. It would be great to see someone create some kind of huge steam-powered musical instrument. A certain style of Delta blues that I'm particularly fond of evolved from the rhythm of trains passing by, and have this great driving beat. Much as I admire VPs music, in my mind I imagine some bizarre mutant child of delta blues and organ music, played on a towering twenty-foot high steam driven combination organ.

I think there's room for a Phantom fo the Opera remake, there

Pssst... have you heard my track "Queen of the Delta"?? Not exactly blues, more like downbeat Trip-Hop, but it's themed around Voodoo on a Riverboat.

Hah, no I hadn't heard it; I must have managed to skip that one when I looked at your site. It's awesome; I love the banjo (I guess it was banjo?) riff against the more modern bass line. Wasn't too sure about the...uhh...I dunno what to call it, that kind of tinkly sound effect that repeats regularly through the song. The one that sounds the way pixie dust looks. I think you definately need something in there, but I felt like it could do with being a tad more subdued than it was; there's a real sense of creeping menace in the background at times, and the pixie dust effect obscures that a little. That being said I know nothing about music, and I think this is possibly my favourite track of yours. I'd love to hear you tackle a delta blues theme; if you could capture that real mournful sound and put it in your own style, that'd be something to hear.

Yes indeed that is a banjo. I think you might be talking about the wind chimes that come in every so often. I added that to give it a kind of otherwordly/ethereal effect. Didn't want to make the whole song sound super dark. More mysterious. I do agree that it is a little busy at times. Though most of the elements drop out every so often, leaving just the swamp ambience, and reverbed choral chords. Glad you like it. I may tweak it some more before the album comes out.

Yea, the fact that they were there to add a sense of mysticism really came through, but at time it might have been a little much. In a couple of places the wind chimes were muted somewhat and I think that gave it a nice, more subtle effect.

I hope I don't sound like I'm being difficult here, I don't mean to pick holes in anything; personally I always appreciate constructive feedback on my work, is all. I'm looking forward to the album.

Oh no please, I too thrive on constructive criticism!

If you ahve any suggestions for any of my other tracks, feel free to let me know! I agree that a more subdued sound to the wind chimes would sound much better.

Maybe you could PM me if you have any other ideas (as to not veer this topic any further off course)

Cheers!

Is it that old already? My GF sent it over to me, so I should have known.  She's not really webculture folk, so she's usually a bit slower to discover stuff like this. I had to explain "all your base are belong to us" just the other day.

If you like that dark blues gothic sound, check out the song on my myspace profile. It's a song by Skip James called Hard Time Killing Room Floor.
Myspace
Most of his songs sound the same, so it's not really worth hunting his music down, but everything seems to come together in this one song.

It's all about the D-minors. It sounds dark as all hell

I love the Pipe Dream one, really wants me to model something like that in a bit more steampunk fashion.  I was actually working on a bunch of random tube/ball contraptions using actual physics a while back but kind of lost track of them.

Of all the Animusic material, I'm partial to Resonant Chamber myself. I can just imagine captaining a luxury airship with this playing at the center of either my sitting/smoking room or my study/library

This one's my favorite, and the most steampunk in my opinion... The Drum Machine.
A vast array of gears inside of what must be a clocktower, marching to it's own drummer. (pun intended)

But I'm dissapointed that none of this person's work has ever entered into the truly madcap and upbeat, nor has any steampunk inspired music.
