Had the pleasure of seeing this at the Asylum. The pistol by itself is impressive but it's the acessories that really bring it to life!

The pictures don't do it justice, I saw it live at the Asylum and it was truly stunning, love everything about it and the attention to detail is mind blowing.

I know I finished this almost exactly two years ago, but lately I've noticed it was looking a bit tatty, and combined with some recently acquired skills (etching and wood turning), I thought it was time to revisit it: The handle (originally two plastic shot glasses glued end-to-end, textured and painted a wood colour) is now a varnished turned piece of red hardwood. I've etched the markings, as the old waterslide ones were falling off. And repainted the whole thing with a highly polished chrome like finish. Nothing is ever really finished...

Its true nothing is ever finished, as time goes by you think "yes if I just do that..", and paint is a bugbear as well, it does wear if you handle it, and if you have to repaint well, you might as well just do an upgrade while are at it.
Herr Doktor, nice job on the handle, wood turning is something I would like to learn properly.

Herr Döktor, I must admit today was the first time a I read your whole thread about your Steam pistol. I must say I'm in AWE! What a great piece, I really like your latest upgrades! The new paint makes it look much more like real metal, the old paint job still looked a bit plasticy in the pics. I also (think to) see that you made a real wooden handle, that looks great! If I had a hat on I would take it off for you kind sir!
Greetings,
Wire.

Many of my projects last over several years. I think its good to be able to update weapons as you learn new skills, it can also be nice to rebuild old ideas anew to produce something better.
I much prefer the new handle. Very nice.

Thank you all! sometimes it is worth revisiting an old project!
Excellent news, Darkview!! I was only looking at some of your work on the Eagle forum the other day, always good to see quality work.
Dr. Mania: that is a no. 0 King Dick (it's one of those trade names that became the general name things, like 'hoover' for vacuum cleaner), I believe the small ones were included in Bentley and Rolls-Royce tool kits in the 30s or 40's.

I had no idea what "Steampunk" was, when my friends dragged me along to see the exhibition at Kew Bridge Steam Museum. Then I was so thoroughly impressed with the creativity and craftsmanship displayed there, that I got hooked on all things steampunk almost immediately. One of the items on display, that impressed me most, was this steam pistol. I even have a photo on my blog. Now I come here and find out who build it and how it was done.
Herr Döktor, I'm almost too impressed for words. I admire your work!
(and yes, letting your freaks near the Dremel could have serious consequences!)

I'm glad to have assisted with your conversion! Have a look at my weblog, I almost manage to put something new on it occasionally. As for feral Dremel, well, I'll have to make a cage...
