Wow! Now, that is different!
Nicely wrought, sir! Does the mouthpiece-looking thing on top serve a purpose?

It's the commander's embedded personal periscop, empowered by the mechanical kraken's sensorial strength and connected directly to the brain by two lateral sensors.

Ah! Splendid construction! I'm glad there's another chap in the forum with an obsession over helmets and pet kraken!

It's the commander's embedded personal periscop, empowered by the mechanical kraken's sensorial strength and connected directly to the brain by two lateral sensors.

I see. I would have thought that it doubled as a voice horn for the little fellow on top.... Grin

Actually, it's a vortex, covered by brass plaques, getting to the fifth dimension.

Naturally, the 5th dimension is the kraken's native habitat, no doubt.

An interesting piece, but the base helmet is so stylish to begin with that it seems a shame to modify it.

You are right, but it was my option. Another one is conceivable, no doubt. The upper trussing is already "kraken-shaped".

In this case for instance, I will modify nothing at all, it will remain as is, it's genuine steamy :

The both pieces - the helmet and the lenses test box - were bought in Prague.

Spectacular! You 5th dimensional, kraken empowered, telescopic captains helmet is fantastic~  Shocked I love it... With your permission would love to make a miniature version similar for the mockup of a deep ocean going sub crew member I'm working on. (Re-making a astronaut barbies outfit into a 20,000 leagues under the sea type crew members gear as they hunt the Kraken!)   Wink Tongue With your permission Captain?  Grin

Yes, the Epinal imagery, a kind of Victorain cartoons in very french version, suits allways well with the steampunk univers.

This helmet complements quite well my very ancient Yellow Submarine (originally not intended as a steampunk creation) :
