Wow!
Is that a private room? Would pretty much have to be, wouldn't it?

Yes. It is but a small part of the enormously over-detailed Cardiff castle. Just search for "cardiff castle interior" on a search engine and be prepared to be overawed.

How can you say that Victorian design is over the top...

Hmm.  Yes.  After that, I think I need a lie down in a quiet, darkened room.  (My tastes run more toward the more restrained Edwardian styles than riots of colour, pattern and knick-knackery).

Persons intending to travel by open carriage should select a seat with their backs to the engine, by which means they will avoid the ashes emitted therefrom, that in travelling generally, but particularly through the tunnels, prove a great annoyance; the carriage farthest from the engine will in consequence be found the most desirable.

Just seen the insightful and Oscar nominated Sharknado 5 film.  Not only is it part set at Crossness (above) , it also features a Steampunk air ship.  Can this be the best Steampunk movie ever?  Sharknado 6 out in 2018.  Can't wait as there'll be time  travel too...

I think that you'll always find the extremes in any era. That to me harks back to the work from the same designers that did the Cheesecake Factory interiors.

*The Cheesecake factory is a popular chain of restaurants in America. Known for their oversize portions (which most couples split in two), they're also known for taking over old cinema theatres and building huge restaurants in a rather bombastic style.  Looks like some Paris catwalk designer's minions had a go at it for a couple of months  Grin  I always joked that it looked like the space cruise ship in The Fifth Element movie (1996?)  Grin
