Thank you for having the wisdom to keep this forum the same for all these years; for not gumming up the page with all kinds of scripts that eat up bandwidth, slow down browsers, and cause crashes without really contributing to the usefulness and enjoyability of the web site. Please continue as you have done in the past. I hope that this forum stays as it is forever.

The flip side of this is that our server software is quite literally falling apart at the seams. Due to our current forum theme being incompatible with the newer version of the software, this is the primary reason we have not upgraded. Undecided

One day we may have to bite the bullet and adopt a new theme and upgrade to a working and actively maintained forum software version. There are many things that no longer work correctly, or even at all on this version. However this is up to Proteus to decide, for he is the keeper of the server, and we mods are merely his bidding servants on earth.  Wink

What would be involved in the upgrade? Would all of the old posts survive?

As far as I know, all the posts would be able to transfer over, so nothing will be lost. Everything will be backed up anyway.

There is however quite a bit of work involved in the upgrade, and there is potential for things to break along the way. Many of the mod files we use will not work, and some alternatives may not be available, so features on the forum may be lost or change.

If there were one thing that should be updated, it would be the addition of image hosting. I have noticed images on this forum that no longer exist on their host servers. Ideally, all of the images currently on the forum would be copied from their current locations to a server on the brass goggles domain.

Don't hold me to it, but I may get around to rebuilding the theme for the updated software sometime in the next....oooh, year or two.
