My dollhouse miniature group had a challenge to build a steampunk pet.  Since I'm pathologically adverse to doing things the "normal" way, I chose to stretch the definition of "pet" and made a steam-powered riding elephant.  He's about 5-1/2" (14cm) long from rear heels to tip of trunk.  That's a very small Eiffel Tower he's ravaging.

I confess: the gears are not practical.  I included them because the group members wouldn't realize something was steampunk if it didn't have useless gears glued on.

As it is, I won the contest; only one other person entered.  She made a dog wearing a top hat decorated with...gears.

He is splendid!  I do like the steam pipe in his tail.

Do you have a complete dolls steampunk lair yet?

I'm very slowly working on a 1:24 scale house kit that will be steampunk.
I'm slowed down by grandiose plans of converting the 3-story Victorian house into an airship.
Maybe I'll cut back and just do a house.  That would be a lot easier.

I could use "easy" right now; we're talking about a major move in 2 years, from Hawaii back to the mainland.  That means getting rid of everything I don't want to pay to ship.  I already shipped some of this stuff over when we moved here 11 years ago, I don't think much of it will be going back.

That is a beautiful elephant!

As for the prospect of moving, start sorting and clearing now and it won't be so much effort (or pain) closer to the day!

That is lovely; now you'll have to add a Steampunk Circus to your list of things to make.

Brilliant! I think the use of 'gear-like-objects' is fully justified in this case!

I think my next steamy animal will be the dragon I got as a prize for this contest.  It's beautifully hand-sculpted, but has no wings, so I'm thinking mechanical wings...

Surely a dragon with no wings is just, well, a big lizard with fiery halitosis  Grin

Sounds like an interesting project, please do post piccies of WIP.
