Well, I just recently discovered the wonderful soundtrack to 'Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magic Obscura"...  which is fantasy-style music played by a string quartet, making it sound somewhat Victorian, and very steampunk... and a bit haunting, too.  It's already mentioned in the Steampunk Computer Games thread... but definitely give the soundtrack a listen if you haven't before.

...anyway...

While browsing comments about it on Youtube, I saw someone ask if there was any similar music out there. A recent response listed this album:

Game of Thrones Theme - New England String Quartet

The album is called "Rivendell", by the New England String Quartet.

...and heck, yes, it's similar to Arcanum!    Several of the tracks are covers from the Arcanum soundtrack, but there are also a couple of other tunes from Lord of the Rings, Skyrim, and of course, see above-- the Game of Thrones theme. But the album actually does the same thing as Arcanum--- taking these familiar fantasy themes and playing them on the strings to make them sound Victorian.
