A past BG member did that; I can't remember who it was, but as I seem to remember, they painted either the inside or outside of the goggles gold (brass) on the curved, beveled edges around the flat lens portions. They looked a bit odd, and he was criticized about it by several individuals, but stuck with them anyway. I wish I could remember the fellow's moniker...

I did a quick and cheap set when I needed some in a hurry.

Here's the link and my post is about halfway down the page.
I reiterate, they were just a quick stop gap, but you asked.

Are steampunks such snobs that a modded pair of swimming goggles has to be looked down upon?

I see no snobbery in the thread, Huh more like a look through than a down on.
Please do post what you come up with Cmdr. Storm.

I was referring to a period quite a while back. In any case, I thought they were unique enough to be acceptable on the strength of that criterion alone.

I myself have seen pool goggles on clearance at the end of summer and thought that they could be modded nicely. They would be smaller and more streamlined than goggles I've seen at steampunk shows, and the small lenses would evoke the image of old-style reading glasses.

Not a very good shot of them I fear, but the amber-tinted ones in my profile picture began life as swim goggles. Their circular front lenses inspired me, and with careful masking and trim application, the curved transparent sides became in appearance triple-pane viewports. I'll try and find a closer shot...

they sell that glitter glue in a tube that's rather thick and could be used to mimic the metal to separate the panels, for a sort of stained glass mosaic look.

covering the silicone edges with something still comfortable could be problematic but if they're relegated to a hat, then comfort isn't a problem. same with the strap.

good luck! keep us posted
