Hey folks.

So like I mentioned in my "Hello I'm new" post, the thing that got me officially hooked with steampunk instead of a general interest was an illustration I made for a competition. I'm a freelance illustrator and go by the name Whistling Bear Illustrations, I specialise in portraiture and animals with my weapon of choice being watercolour and ink. Now, past the boring intro and onto the illustration in question, I was asked to take part in a creative competition called Playing Arts, a whole range of creatives are given a specific card and need to create a piece of artwork to go on that card, later on the cards are opened to a vote and the highest one for each card wins. I got the 6 of spades, when I researched a little into the card I found it meant "money through hard work". First thing that came to mind was the industrial revolution and steampunk, I began researching, making sketches and eventually finalised an idea. I have put below images I shared on social media at the different stages of my illustration, have a look and see what you think. Currently the closing date for entries is coming up quick and the next stage(the voting part) while be starting soon but I'll keep you posted in case you want to share any support. Also, since creating this piece and delving deeper into my new found love of steampunk I have a few more illustrations planned with a steampunk theme, I'll have to keep you posted on those as well.

Feel free to take a look and see what you think, apologies for the links, it's been a good few years since I was last on a forum and trying to remember how it all works.

Thanks for checking out my work and have a great day Smiley

Nicely done, and thanks for showing your thought processes as well as the finished illustration.  It makes the final form even more interesting.

Hi Hez, thanks for the comment, yes I like to show the prep work now, I think it's good to emphasize that it takes time, you can't rush something and expect it to be awesome unless you're damn lucky.

I was recently asked by an illustration agency to make a small batch of samples, something I've been meaning to do to boost my portfolio, and with my passion for steampunk growing I have kept that theme in mind. So I have three sketches and high expectations from them, so hopefully I'll be able to update you even more in the future.

Also, I'll let you know when voting goes live for the competition, hopefully I can count on your vote for my steampunk inspired 6 of spades!
