Now we see the cheeky chap taking shape. What colours are you thinking of- brass, like the render?

HP
I actually have a narrative for this little guy rolling around my head and it will definitely inform the paints.
I see him as a scavenger that has been around for many years. He scavenges parts to keep himself going and the base that he will be on will include some clockwork bits and pieces and a broken pocketwatch (he'll be holding some bits in his beak). As such, he will be a bit beaten up and weathered, I've actually included some of this in the modeling (plus an attack with my Dremel).
Most of my work ends up pretty grimy and weathered...I like to think that this is what the pieces look like today, as antiques with a lifetime of stories, rather than something fresh from the maker's workbench.

Base paints down. Next phase will be picking out some of the details in different metals. Happy with the way this is coming together. Smiley

Beautiful. I especially like the green tarnish. It's going to be very special when you're done.

I love it. The imagination you are pouring into that little bird really brings him to life! I can't wait to see your further colouring, it already looks deliciously corroded and weathered in places.

Quick Youtube video (not sure how to embed, so I've just popped a link below) to show the dimensionality of the piece.

Very, very nice indeed- He does look as though cast in brass, all tiny pieces. Well done Sir!

Mock up of final layout for the Raven. Scavenging parts for himself from a smashed pocket watch (which is actually just an empty Steampunk accessory from Spotlight that cost me three bucks stuffed full of random cogs). If you are a watchmaker who is about to comment that the mainspring being torn from the watch is way too big... I know... artistic license Smiley
Nice base and a few extra bits and pieces to come...including an interesting way of incorporating "Nevermore" that I will keep secret in case it fails miserably Wink

I've been quietly watching this as it evolves. Fantastic, I'm really liking the overall Raven and now the base idea makes it all sort of come together as one. Love it!

Base done. Just need to seal up everything, add some felt to the bottom and then take some proper photos before sending it off to New Zealand.

Thanks. I love the idea that he is coming across as "cheeky". The narrative is that he is repairing or upgrading himself... ravens are such mischievous creatures Smiley

I love the wonderful detail - like the writing on the base and the broken face of the watch. A brilliant composition!

Yours,
Miranda.

Thanks everyone. I'm glad you like the way this has finished up.
Maets, the writing is some of the text of Poe's poem, The Raven. It's not really meant to be legible, just a bit of an "Easter egg" Smiley
