This may seem strange, given my time here, but I was just wondering how I would go about posting a photo stored in my computer as an avatar. this may have been covered elsewhere, but it was I am not sufficiently computer literate enough to decipher it.

First, follow the guidelines in the FAQ.

When you get to your Forum Profile Information page, you'll see the first four items are radio buttons. Pick the fourth one, I will upload my own picture: and then click the Browse... button next to it. This opens a standard file chooser where you navigate to the image file on your disk.

The only thing to keep in mind is that generally the Avatar picture is very small.  For most websites I use a 100x100 pixel to a 300x300 pixel picture maximum.  So using a simple picture editor or something like Microsoft Paint (the simplest built in graphics tool in Windows) is useful before you upload the avatar into the BG server (unlike the pictures we usually post in our threads,  the avatar will be stored in the Brassgoggles computer) .

On BG the avatar must be no larger than 100x100 px, or the uploader will reject it without telling you why.

Okay, rather than an avatar I now see a white X inside a teeny black square, so I'm guessing that this means that the image is too big. I hate to be a nuisance, but how would one going about creating something small enough to fit the space?
