If you can't make a mistake you can't make a thing

I like the look of medals on an outfit, but am very aware (being ex-services), of the 'stolen valour' issues that can arise from people not realising what medals, and the medal ribbons alone represent. To counter that, I decided to make some 'Geek' medals, using novelty keyrings and non-military medal ribbons. These are some of my first, making iconic spacecraft into medals:

I like the idea, and the ribbons, but perhaps airships and submarines etc., may be more appropriate than Star Wars - but of course, you know that!

Star Wars, Star Trek and Firefly.  Wink

Yes, I know, I thought I'd nail my geeky nerd/nerdy geek colours to the mast. I've also got Boba Fett's Slave 1, an Imperial Star Destroyer, and am waiting on a Death Star keyring to make up another trio. Airships, subs, cogs and gears are getting done all the time, so I thought I'd do something different. I do have a ship's wheel pendant to make into one, and am waiting on a series of more 'appropriate' (?) steampunk style pendants to make medals out of. Watch this space.

Firefly is like Steampunk in space. The wild west aesthetic is very 1800s.

Star Trek TNG episode "Times Arrow".

There is a good deal of steam power used in Star Wars.

Are the pendants your own manufacture?  Are they purchasable somewhere?

You can get them on ebay, all the way from China:

I've made a few medals just using various large charms of krakens and the like, using different widths of ribbon on top of each other to get the 'stripes'.  I have decided what they were awarded for (the kraken in the 'Royal Atlantean Expeditionary Medal'), just in case anyone asks but no-one could possibly mistake them for a proper military award.

If it's sufficiently old or vague, I've used hood ornaments, put together...never know what will work.

It looks like an anatomically correct heart from here.

Looks like a human heart.  Shouldn't the ribbon be purple?  (At least in the United States).

It is an anatomically correct heart, yes, formally a pendant. I've tried to avoid any ribbons with military connotations whatsoever. Luckily I've found somewhere that does ribbons for obsolete nobility, ancient religious orders and obscure meritorious awards.

Do they have a website?

Made some more. A 'triple' on a 3 medal bar, and a couple of singles with the same medal.

I agree, it seems I can only purchase single colour ribbon from the various excellent haberdashery stores around me
