Someone I met today suggested the movie Steamboy for me to watch, only I have no idea what to expect and he hadn't watched it either. I must say the trailer looks nice.
anyone here who saw the movie and would like to share an opinion?

It's a classic. I wouldn't say it's my favourite Steampunk anything, but it definitely is a Steampunk movie, as opposed to many other vaguely-steamy Japanese movies/series, such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Last Exile and Trigun.

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen.
Steamboy?
Last summer my steampunk community hired the projection room of a cinepub and gave a private viewing of Steamboy for those of us 'trapped' in Madrid in late July. Lovely air conditioning and a delightful film, followed by a tertulia (lively discussion). It was a great excuse to dress steampunk and have a good time.

If you can see it with steamer friends, do so. I myself found it just a bit heavy-handed and I hate screechy heroines.
Other than that, by all means see it!

Personally I wasn't impressed by the plot in comparison to other Studio Ghibli movies, but the visuals are phenomenal.

Set a date and time to watch it with people who have the DVD, then do some sort of "live" running commentary either here or on social media. Watch it with your friends here, so to speak.

What a simply splendid idea. After all, what's the ethernet for, if not to unite steamers?

It's NOT studio Ghibli its studio Sunrise. the big clue is that it's missing it's library number on the spine.
It's also not listed in the catalogue.

I'm no expert here, but the character design for Steamboy is VERY different from say Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away.  That alone should clue you in that this is not a Ghibli production.

Good eye, Studio Ghibli has always relied on old school animation methods and style.

It's beautifully drawn, but the plot goes downhill towards the end.
