getting back to it...

before dwelving along the steampunk on the web and across the dieselpunk expression me and a pal of mine where using pistonpunk. i don't think there's a derivation, but a narrowing of definition. you may speak of pulp but, from what I've read, a definite genre as "hardboiled" is pulp stuff, no? and there is still a place for the "hardboiled" term. like first are living beings, than animals, then mammals, then humans, then male/female, then...

yes?

so...

Ok dude WTF??

That comment was not meant as a jab, in fact I actually DIDN'T KNOW that Terry Gilliam DIDN'T write that story! I was simply affirming to you that this was new information to me. Then I added a silly comment becuase it seems that more than half of Gilliam's output seems to be written by other people, or is remake material.

Baron Munchausen, Erik the Viking, The Brothers Grimm, and 12 Monkeys to name a few.

I didn't even bother reading your post, when I saw that you completely took that comment the wrong way.

If this is how the members here behave, then fuck it, I would rather just do my own thing.

Looking at it one way, it could look like a bitter jab, dripping with the lowest form of wit.  On the other hand, it could just be an attempt at cammeraderie and a humerous digg at a well known writer's habits.

DING!!!! Amanda got it. Thank you!

Now to address this so called rivalry??

If I recall correctly, my e-mail to you in PRIVATE was in no way "correcting you", but asking you to not judge my work based on a  few pieces. To give my stuff another chance. Because I feel that eventually I will release something more fitting to your tastes. Currently I don't incorporate Tango into my Steampunk music, but that doesn't mean I never will. I happen to be influenced by a great deal of music, and I feel that maybe in the future something I create will be more towards your liking.

Now I don't see how that could be interpretted as "correcting your misunderstanding"?

Either you just have some general disdain for others, or you are just very bitter about something, but that is no reason, and gives you no right to post slanderous comments on a public forum.

I don't recall ever getting into any kind of argument, or aggressive conversation with you at any point on this board. As far as your "walking on eggshells" around this guy comment goes... I don't see why you care so much, if someone disagrees with you. Just because I don't have the same view, does not mean there is some vendetta against you. How petty to even think like that. You dare to post condenscending, back-handed thinly veiled insults on this board (to myself and others), and then turn around and accuse me of being some fascist tyrant?!

Well if you haven't already left, I think I just might. Because I have a day job, and I have personal projects to concentrate on. I don't have the time, nor the patience to deal with childishness like this.

Oh and when have you ever "attempted to contact me privately" about anything? You never even "responded" to my personal message. Let alone sent me one!

One more thing...  "walk on eggshells around this guy because he won't let it go and uses his position of responsibility for the intimidation it affords, you are not allowed to disagree with him".

What!!?? Are you kidding! I welcome disagreements with open arms. That is the only way to really learn, and experience life! By disagreeing, you give not only yourself the opportunity to share your ideas and views with someone, but they have the sam opportunity to do that with you.

Take this thread for instance... I was opposed initially at the idea of Dieselpunk deserving it's own genre name... BUT after a few pages of discussion, I was swayed to at the very least acknoweldge that it is indeed recognized as such, and to even offer some examples of what I would consider to be Dieselpunk.

So you see, without disagreement, we may never understand one another.

I don't see what your problem is, but I really don't need to be a part of it.

Vernian Process, Fantomas:

1. You are both highly intelligent men.  You are both deeply passionate.  It would be sad to lose either of you.
2. Fantomas- I understand where you are coming from on this.
3. Ditto for you, VP.
4. Nevertheless, the upset and use of Anglo-Saxonisms must stop, even as asides. Please agree to disagree.  Even though I'm new here and have no power, I think both of you should calm down, stop being shirty, and shake hands. Either that or Tinkergirl will have to take you both to the woodshed, unless you prefer having your respective tonsils cleaned with the large bar of French-milled laundry soap I happen to have on my person.  And no supper, either. I think such an experience might encourage you to band together, or at least stop arguing; it's just not a good thing for any of us.

5. And yes, both of you have a point.  You've both won. There- now please, please don't quarrel, and be more careful in your choice of words in the future.

A true alternative subculture is one that not only questions the social status quo but poses viable solutions to some of the perceived underlying problems. Difference from the norm is not the same as superiority to the mainstream unless it can be  argued that the difference is positing a better way.

Actually I don't want to "win", I want not to have slanderous comments thrown at me about something I had no idea even existed (this so called rivalry). I have no argument, in fact to begin with I WAS AGREEING with his initial comment! It isn't my fault that he read so far into it, that he completely skipped the part where I was smiling and nodding along with him.

That may or may not be so- but could both of you try to just ignore the incident? And accept that neither of you was trying to slander the other?
Selective memory is a good thing.  Take my word for it.  There are too few of us to quarrel like this.

What may or may not be so?? It's quite obvious that I wasn't arguing, and that he completely created some kind of rivalry. there is no "may or may not be so" there. There is only fact. There is no way to remain neutral on this issue, because there is no issue to remain neutral on.

In fact I recieved a PM from Amanda this morning regarding a disagreement I was having with someone on the forum. I responded with a "have no idea what you are talking about" message because I DIDN'T HAVE ANY IDEA what this was about?? In fact it wasn't untill I checked my missed posts from this weekend, that I realized there was some kind of new drama that popped up while I was away this weekend.

You see this is why I don't want to continue posting here. This whole thing has already wasted an hour of my time at work, where I could be getting this product tested.

Locked.   Angry

This is going nowhere fast, much to my dissapointment.  I have no problems with a new "Dieselpunk and Pulp" thread being started, in fact I encourage it.  However this thread has become simply POISONED with the comments of two posters, and I'll not have it.

My sincerest apologies to those who have been caught in the crossfire (Ms Duchess in particular - thank you for your attempt at calm).
