As part of the BBC's Make it Digital season, next Thursday (17.9.15) BBC 4 is showing Calculating Ada: The Countess of Computing at 9pm BST. From the write-up in the Radio Times, something I didn't know - apparently, her mother encouraged Ada to study mathematics and science over the arts to avoid the 'madness' of her father (Lord Byron).

P.S. for those with an interest in more recent history and access to iPlayer, again in the 'digital' season BBC 2's Bletchley Park: Code-Breaking's Forgotten Genius told the story of Gordon Welchman's contribution to intelligence analysis during the second world war and the cold war (it was broadcast on Monday evening).
