If you request account deletion, it doesn't automatically happen (to prevent accidents); I clean out such requests periodically, and then your account will be deleted, but posts made under that account live on.

Deletion is a fairly extreme measure, and so we operate with the safety on, as it were. If there's some specific privacy issue where some data or some specific posts need deleting, PM me for help please -- I'll do what I can (which is *just about* anything Cheesy)

If you dig through the archives, you'll eventually come across posts by users with the rank of "Guest." (The Chronautomata Board Posting Guidelines thread is one example.) These are former members whose accounts have been deleted for one reason or another.

On the site I moderate (totally different sort of thing)  the content is considered to belong to the site.   So even if you delete yourself, the discussions you have contributed to remain.    I tried to take out a buddies stuff for him.  He had written a book a chapter at a time on the site.   His publisher wanted it down before he would publish the work.  The site owner was livid.  I deleted the book, but the site owner still recovered it and replaced it.   He chewed me out pretty good.

:-)

Don't know how this site works but expect it to be similar.

And I agree, please stay.

I don't consider BG to _own_ any of the content here. The site agreement grants BG an unlimited royalty-free _license_ to that content, though.

From a legal standpoint, the site can do whatever it wants to present the content you post, and isn't required to remove that content upon request (with some exceptions, such as complying with DMCA claims if you post something that didn't belong to you in the first place).

That said, I'm a big fan of the basic concept of "don't be a dick"; so if insisting on our right to keep hosting content causes harm to you, I'll generally be amenable to deleting it. Though I reserve the right to try to talk you out of it, and make exceptions where removing the content would harm the community.

Dear Selectedgrub,

I do hope that this is just an academic enquiry.
