"Mallard, Reid take Beety and check out the sites this side of the tower. Abraham come with me Celia and Mr Smith, we need to know the extent of the constructions works."
"How do you know of this James?" Celia asked and just as James was about to answer, Mr Smith coughed.
"What going on here, what are you people doing on my land?"
"You the owner here?" James asked walking up to the man.
"This is my construction site!"
"I think we need to speak in quit private place!" James replied a low growl coming from his throat.
"I don't need to answer to any of you people!" he replied defiantly.
"We know about the runes on the iron and there purpose!" James said back threateningly.
The man narrowed his eyes, "Who are you people?" he said in a low voice.
Celia walked up and put a hand on James arm  stopping him from grabbing the man.
"My lady, if I had know you were here I would not have acted so hasty!"
The eyes of everyone turned to Celia and she took a step back.
The man bowed to her, "Please explain to this ruffian what is going on here."
"I don't know you or what you mean," Celia replied, "But I do recognize what going on."
"But madam, your the one who is sponsoring all this and defined the marking to go on the rails!"

Celia saw this getting quickly out of hand.  "Do you have an office where a lady can get out of the sun for a moment while I confirm that construction is going to plan?"  Well this was at least good practice to going to the goblins. Much to her surprise she was actually lead in to what she suspected was the man's house and seated in a place of honour in the parlour and served tea and briskets. "I was expecting you later in the week madam but I do have the progress reports as you requested." He handed her a folder and Celia started to read it only to be very glad she was sitting down.

There looking back at her from some photo print that was marked as ready for press release was Celia's own face.  The other her was wearing a very fine dress indeed and shoes that looked more like confections than something you could slog around London in. "James When you look at this what do you see?"  Celia said handing him the folder and hoping it was glamoured paper to ensnare the rail road man and not as real as the ball of worry in the pit of her stomach was telling her.

There was crash of thunder and a flash of chaotic dark brilliance as the Linnaeus came into the Goblin Market's dome-like glamour field at full tilt (not rreally terribly fast as some air vehicles were wont to go, but fast enough for her speed to be apparent from the ground), blue and violet bolts of thaumic energy crackling all over her spell-protected canvas-over- wicker hull, her fans roaring as her steam powerplant thumped out an insistent beat.

"You sure you want to do this, sir?" the captain had asked as they approached what would to normal eyes and instruments be the invisible glamour that hid the Market from mundane eyes.  Professor Marley Whippett, Lieutenant of the Linnaeus Guards of the Order of Knights Temporal, answered, "it's orders, captain, from the Chief himself, and his letter sounded worried." The Professor wondered, not for the first time since receiving the letter, if Miss Celia were once aqain involved. A vague fondness passed through his head but he shoved it away before it could interfere with his reason or resolve. Then and now, dolt, he snarled to himself. "just keep her on an even keel, captain!" he said, as he looked again at the thaumagraph in his right hand, and gripped with his other hand one of the brass poles that were spaced around the bridge, as the ship suddenly flopped over to port like a key in a keyhole.

"sorry sir --!"

"Drop me here, captain," Whippett said, as the squiggle that usually indicated a ballast-level mage was nearby, scrawled itself across  one of the drums behind the isinglas window of the thaumagraph. Celia? he thought. Nothing for it, the readings were obvious, the epicenter of the disturbances were nearby, perhaps even directly below. He stepped out as the edge of a horribly sparkly roof hove by, as if alighting from an omnibus, and began making his way toward the ground below.  He tipped his flat cap to a beautiful-lookiing maiden who leaned out of a gilded window that could have served as a really distasteful baroque picture frame, to see who had been on her roof. Her copious adornments and cleavage made it rather obvious that she was a goblin. "Knights Temporal business, miss," he said with a wink. The female answered, her glamour dropping to reveal her true, heinious featrures, "It's Madam, you young charmer." she said. "do be careful, there's a loose brick just th-! Ah, well. Have a nice trip, young fellow," she yelled, laughing as Marley fell. Stepping on the brick had been intentional on Marley's part; it staved off the attemped "thank-you" trick that ensnared so many newcomers to the goblin ways of doing things.

He set off in the direction of the main disturbance, and rounded a corner just in time to see an all-too-familiar figure surrounded by white-clad men. He reached for his pistol and pocketed the Thaumagraph, and would have drawn the firearm and charged the group had he not noticed a similar familiar figure, but in the company of a motley collection of people. Celia's "irregulars?" he thought. What're they doing here? and where... oh, I see. Or rather, I don't see... he thought, a bit confusedly, shoved the pistol back all the way into its holster, and decided to wait and see who did what, in order to decide who was actually who, as the Linnaeus exited the glamour with a loud thunderclap and a flash of black radiance...

James took the folder and started reading, the construction had gone further then it should have according to history and it immediately rang bells, he handed the folder to Mr Smith but kept the picture "Unless you like to slum it with the rest of us, I would guess that you have family in london that is alot richer then you, Ms Celia."

"This is very odd James." Celia said as their host went back to get more cakes.  "One no relative of mine in the current generation is suposed to live in London as it can cause something like a reoccurring magical influenza that is fairly miserable.  Two I am the eldest of my generation by quite a long shot.  My eldest cousin turned sixteen last fall and he looks nothing like me.  Three look at the people with her.  It is of course hard to tell win black and white but unless I miss my mark the third one on the left is the white hound that attacked us."  She stared to smile but then froze as her host re-emerged with said man in white.

"Madam your escort is here." He said calmly while the hound grinned wickedly.

"Oh hell." Celia muttered under her breath and tried to start raising a magical defence.

Watching the tableaux play our before him, it quickly became obvious who was the doppelganger and whom the real Celia. The woman was known to be insanely powerful, or so the stories went at any rate - but Marley also knew thew the stories of her latest exploits, so it was no surprise that her aura seemed somewhat weaker than in past adventures. He himself was no juggernaut of thaumic might, but he was determined to come to his friend's rescue. He edged closer around a stack of crates marked "nails," and "mucilage" and the like.

An idea struck him as he noticed that one of the mucilage (glue) crates was topless, revealing a tin of the viscous stuff. he tucked it into his vest, lodging it against the large inside tool pocket, and pulled out his knights nbadge with one hand, and teh thamagraph with the other, then stepped our form behind the crates and walked right on a beeline toward the group, looking for all the world like a Ley inspector checking the lines. he stopped short right beside the leader in question.

" 'scuse me, mister, could you move, please? Knights Temporal business. Checkin' the lines, you know - oh, I say, do you see this? It says you're a bastard." He shoved the thaumagraph right into the man's face as he slid the pin on the back of the badge into the fabric of the vest, and drew his revolver - and pressed the muzzle to the man's head, spun him around and dragged him around to face the hounds. "Alright, you lot, BACK OFF!" He glanced briefly at Celia, and said, "I figured you were about someplace, Milady. Got a bit of a fracas in the making, do we?"

When the white hound rounded them up she held James back from attacking.  They were better to wait until the shadow made itself known than strike and be caught unprotected.  Ah they were going to the goblin market.  Celia almost smiled. This gave her a shot to blindside the bastard when the glamour had already disoriented him.  She subtly started to raise the power she would need when Marley sprung out.  "Well aren't you a sight for sore eyes.  Things are about as hot as a lobster pot around here."

James spun startled by the new person appearing behind, his body had already started to blur when he felt a hand of warning on his arm. He turned to Celia who nodded and silently said no.
He turned back to the hound and growled, "Ready for another round?"
The hounds smile dropped slightly but returned, "Hound against hound, I killed you once, whats to stop me killing you a second time?"

"We have gotten to something real bad Marley, Morgan and Arthur bad." Celia said taking them down an ally where they could see the fight if necessary but it would be hard to sneak up on them.  "I think they have made a Tulpa or echo of me but I wont be able to tell what it is until I see it up close.  All I know is that even with the big golden avatars I should have felt the hound before he was close.  I thought it was exertion but now I am worried it might be active dampening. They shouldn't be able to..."  She trailed off all the warning she got was a wavering shadow in the doorway before the claws came for them.  Celia pulled Marley out of the way causing them both to tumble forward and miss the first strike.  "They detached their shadows and we better move fast."

"Well, now, that's embarrassing," Marley quipped as he scrambled afte Celia. "Usually it's the hero supposed to do the timely grabbing. Though I might get to like the change." He checked to be sure the Webley was still holstered, then withdrew fiorm his pocket a small vial of purple powder. "a bit of Pinkman's Revelatory should make 'em easier to see coming," he said, as he shook a small pinch into his palm, and then blew it forward and around. "Use it to show me where the gremlins are," he said, as the clawed apparition before them sprang into horrific clarity. "UGh. messy bastards, arrren't they." he said as he drew and fired at the shadow hound. The thing reacted (Marley's bullets had a relatively high silver content, as it seemed to bethe only thing that affected some kinds of intertemporal nasties), but seemed to shake it off after a moment. "Damned resilient too."

Reid and the others had been content to split up, but had hovered near when the confrontation began with the railway man.  The distinct sound of a firearm discharging was enough to end the ranger's indecision about splitting up.

Goblin market be damned.  He would have to chance the meeting he feared....

Reid called to the others  "We need to find Celia!"  And raced to turn the corner into the ally and towards the sound of the shot.

"A Tulpa? Damned detailed one, if that's what she is." Marley squeezed off another three shots as they hurried away; the things seemed weakened, albeit by miniscule amounts, with each round, and were falling behind.  "have you been wishing you had a double to take care of things for you or something? That's one way Tulpa's get created, you know. Mayeb somebody hijacked her and made 'improvements,' if you get what I mean." He glanced behind; the shadows from a few minutes before had disappeared behind a corner, but he had a niggling feeling more might be ahead. "I don't like this alley, and I can feel the Market's field somewhere off that way," he gestured. The sound of running feet came to his ears, and he reied himself for gunplay.

Reid skidded to a stop.  He could see Celia standing with her friends, and shadows receding down the other end of the alleyway.   Not sure if the others were still following, the ranger was leery about charging into a fight and accidentally getting shot by friendly fire.

In the tight spaces he had only drawn the tanto.  He switched to a reverse grip, and tucked it beside his leg as he approached.

"Everything alright?" he asked.

The fellow looked like one of those tha had been with Celia earlier, but past experience, and the apparent fact of Celia's tulpa, made him cautous. he let the muzzle fo teh webley point atteh ground, but held himself ready to jerk it back intto firing position again if teh need arose. The fact that the revelatory's pleasant stink still clung to their clothes was also in his mind. Was this some spectre made visible by it? "About as well as may be," he called out in response to the newcomer. "Taken up whittling, have you?"

"I could always use a hand but I know where wishing gets you if you let it run.  Either way it shouldn't be able to tap the power unless every time I access it is hag riding me and it should be very clear if it was." Celia said pulling what power she could muster to guard Marley's back.  It was far harder to do than she expected to raise the thunder ball and even harder to keep it.  She shook partly from the effort and party from fear her face was pale and worried.  None of this should be happening.  This was her city so why was she so helpless? Had the Morgan known or possibly caused it?  Either way it was bad.

Reid's face was a very welcomed sight. She fired the thunder ball as the shadow tried to make another run.  It was blasted back again for now.   Celia smiled at least she still had that in her. "This has all gone pear shaped Reid. This is Marley he is an old friend and valiant proctor of London.  Our friends in white weren't too busy licking their wounds to set a trap James is fighting the white hound who showed up again like a bad penny.  I think they may have crashed through a window of the house and still be at each other's throats.  They have another me, a very powerful one unless I missed my mark.  If we can make it to the goblins I think I can muster enough to stand against her  at least long enough to figure out what she is."

"Another you?"  Reid asked.   "I sort of thought you were one of a kind Ma'am."

Grim levity was the only kind Reid knew....    "Well, if you like, I am not sure the others followed, so it might be just us for a bit.  But if you want to continue, I am game."

The hound smile faded momentarily when James pulled out his Æther Pistol and aimed it towards him, "You think your little toy will help?"
"I didn't try it last time!" James said smiling as the pistol warmed up and stated to glow in his hand.
"And what exactly is it supposed to do to me?"
James Smiled, "Dunno, but would be a shame if I didn't try it!" James replied as he opened fire. A ball of lightning came from the barrel and engulfed the hound, he screamed briefly and collapsed to the ground. The lightning dissipated into the ground and he chuckled while standing up, "Well... that tingled." he said standing up and straightening out his suit.
James shrugged, "Didn't think it would do much, but does tell me one thing." he said as he slipped it into his holster.
"And what is that?"
"Your mortal and even though you have magic protecting you I can kill you in a conventional way!"
"And what is that conventional way?"
James smiled and has form started to fade and shift again. "All I have to do is rip off you head!" James reply came out as a deep growl and in front of the White Hound stood the Grey Wolf.
The White Hound removed his jacked and transformed into a werewolf himself, while a smile crossed his jaws he still stood more then a head shorter then Grey Wolf.
Grey Wolf Smiled, "So Lycans do exist in london."
"And they exist where ever you come from."
"Not yet!" Grey Wolf replied smiling as a look of confusion crossed the White Hounds face.
The white Hound lunged towards Grey Wolf and they both rolled across the ground trying to claw each other apart.

A bucket of water was smartly upended over the battling werewolves "Later both of you." snapped Beety.  "James just because this puppy killed you, you don't have to kill him back right now do you?  We have more important things to consider." Considering that she hadn't a trace of were blood in her, it was amazing how much Beety reminded him of a pack's alpha female scolding young whelps.

Abraham simply watched as his comrades fought what seemed like an unstoppable foe. He had sat back too long.

He calmly walked towards the two werewolves and Beety. With each step, electricity crackled from the ground, and the sky grew dark.

The Old Gods had arrived in London.

Amidst the chaos of wolves and water, electric crackling air, and old gods, no one noticed when a small fissure opened in the alley wall and an inky stain of black air enveloped the ranger and sucked him back through the narrow crack.

It was fast and silent, but suddenly the ranger was simply gone.

"Beety, the honor of the pack demands that any challange made against a pack leader must be met and put down. I have been and always be the leader or the Dark Covens and its about time I acted like one!" James replied shaking water everywhere.
"I will be the beta to ..." what ever the hound was about to say was cut off when james claw struck out, wrapped around his neck and in one lightning fluid moved, hoisted him off the ground and slammed him back head first into the stone. The hound was rendered instantly unconscious and reverted back to human form.
"James, we need him alive!" cried Beety.
James stood up, turned around and walked over to her. "He is still alive, but he wont be taking wolfen form anytime soon now he know who is Alpha." he growled looking down on her.

Mallard was too busy watching the fight with great interest to even notice Reid's disappearance. "What do you mean wheres Reid? he's right..." he looked to his left "here. Now that is odd..." he pulled down his goggles, fiddled with the dials and lenses and looked around. "Ah, background radiation, whatever opened up and took Reid was leaking with this stuff, Some kind of fissure"
"Well where is he?" asked Beety, looking vaguely irritable.
"Haven't the foggiest."
