Hey, Captain, thanks for sticking up for me on the thread about the crossbow, I would mention the fact that someones blocked me there, but I can't, cuz someones blocked me... just the type of bullying I was talking about. of course no one mentioned the death threat towards me...

"Uh-uh. I know what you're thinking. Did he discharge 6 chambers, or was it only 5? Well, I rather forgot myself, what with all this excitement and all. But seeing that this is a .45 Civiliser, the most powerful hand-cannon in the Empire, and will blow your goggles clean off, you ought to ask yourself a question. Do I feel lucky?

"Well, do you... steampunk?"

The whole thread got closed, it isn't that you are blocked specifically or being bullied.  The threat could have been the very reason, but they shut the whole thread down.

I know you weren't addressing me, but I tried to post on there and found it closed, so thought I could explain that part.

Fair enough, but I think you'll agree, it was quite uncalled for. Anyway, lets not get off topic on the thread, just thanks again. Almost got banned on the RPF for saying an opinion, probably should keep my trap shut...

One nasty connection between London and Celia is that  If something were to truly end the city she would take the blow and die.  She is in essence a bodyguard or blade of armour and she has never felt that hit home very much until now.

Possibly but there is suposed to be only one ballast tho the men in white are most likely trying to replace Celia with someone under there control but with Toby holding the inheritance it means that both of them will have to be take out before it will work 100%.  Now that does not mean that Celia is not sort of disposable she has a lot of sisters and cousins that could step up.  The reason while the job skips a generation is to give the family a chance to make more candidates after all.

Maybe the men in white have been sapping Celia's connection to the city covertly for some time......

Weakening her in advance of a plot that they knew she would oppose.

The rule of genetic divergence states that somewhere there is a clone of someone.
If there is a second Celia, it's possible that she may not be aware of them except in dreams and visions.
What if this other Celia is the false profit!

What if it could be is an older Celia driven mad by ww2.  All of her line has seen visions of hell since they first started and they have known as horrible as it is there are rules you can't brake even to stop the pain.  What happens when someone with a whole lot of power is pushed past the brink?  What if all she could do was take over another magic user who was not careful enough to use wards and drive them forward.  They would be horribly broken but powerful husk and Celia would never know they were there.  After all as far as London is concerned she has every right to the power she wields.  And it is possible she would create an alternate time like that was never suposed to happen doing that.

They may have be distracting her with minor emergencies to hide what they are doing and the amount of negotiations she would have to make so that big building projects could go ahead would keep her running.  And making trouble with the rivers and the fae would be just up their ally. With so many fires to put out she wouldn't notice the creping until it was too late.  That could be why the city had to use her own personal  power to fight the shadows.

I'm still reading the OOC and what's gone on up until now in the game thread, but is there a possibility of joining this case, or perhaps the next one?

Hi, the game thread is now over ten pages long, so it is advisable to read to read through it, it is too long to explain!!! It is not for me to say if you can join or not though, but I expect so!

The next one is a definite, this one may be a problem as we are running like mad but if you have an idea on how to jump in running then post here and we can see what can be done.

Thinking of a sort of magickal-technical handyman type, with a means of transport available (small airship or something like that). Sort of a Runester or Magic engineer with a spanner and a revolver type of person. Probably has helped Celia in the past with some thorny fixes for magickal mechanical "marvels" invented by people who thought they knew what they were doing but didn't, said machines going horribly wrong at exactly the wrong intertemporal moment; Perhaps he takes care of Big Ben or one (or all?) of the metaphysically-connected cathedral clocks and/or sundials in London.
Name: Prof. Marley Whippett

Age: late 30s in actuality, but looks to be about 25

Gender: Male

History: Educated at Oxford, ostensibly in the College of Divinty, but in actuality in the semi-secret Metaphysical Regulation College (begging the pardon of real world alumni, especially if the colleges are not ordered that way). Found a serious flaw in the timing of Divinity's temporal-regulatory tower clock (an ancient foliot-escapement device) that had wreaked temporal havoc for ages with numerous disappearances, timewarps, and transient vortices. Fixed the problem, and also the runic discrepancy in the Cathedral's sundial that had made devilish appaeritions appear in the darker corners of the university at odd and inopportune moments. enlisted in the Royal Marines after graduating from the UIniversity with honors and a professorship in Metaphysical Regulation (outwardly in Divinity).

It was after that stint and just after joining the Knights Temporal, whose job it was to repair, maintain, and safeguard the city's municipal and royal (and magi-technical) timepieces,  That he helped "Miss Celia" on a number of cases involving privately-built time machines and several magical contrivances of the same purpose, all of which had gone wrong at the same time, a veritable epidemic of vortices and warps. He also gave aid in a matter involving a serious mistake in a runescript inscribed on an obelisk in Hyde park, which had caused the summoning of the Norns, who were determined to take their quarry at all costs, including the destruction of the White Tower. In that and subsequent cases (most unrelated to Celia's) He has garnered a reputation for solid solutions to problems (somewhat deserved; it's not always that simple), and a somewhat heavy hand with the service revolver that he habitually wears (all of the Knights are armed and have police powers within their mileu; magic and tech don't solve everything). Has access to and use of the Knight's Air vehicles, usually the HMAS Carolus Linnaeus*, a dirigible with steam powered ducted fan propulsion.  He has also appeared in an official capacity at many of the ceremonies that Celia has officiated at.

Skills:
-Technomagick (basically the practice and art of combining magick and technology into physical constructs and/or inscriptions and sculpted forms that affect both the mundane and magickal worlds in significant ways)

-Horology, both magickal and mundane, especially as relates to the manipulation and/or traversing of time and space, and dialling.

-Runemal and Magickal inscription and/or incantation.

-Combat, including hand-to-hand, marksmanship, and swordwork (though he does not usually carry a sword unless in ceremonial regalia. has been known to use a spanner  like a sword if the need arises.

Speciality: Temporal and Runic Magic.

Personality: amiable, but mercurial if crossed or threatened. Has a chivalrous streak, but can be a bit of a bastard if someone has crossed or offended his sense of honor too much or too often. Deadly in combat and can be ruthless if the situation calls for it.

What you look like: Dark brown hair tinged very slightly with gray; youthful (mid twenties) complection and muscle tone; About 5'11", medium build, not a bodybuilder type but not underdeveloped either. Usually dresses in workmanlike trousers, white shirt, long, heavy canvas-like fabric vest (full of pockets and loops for storing various clockmaker's tools and other odds and ends) over all, with leather apron if working on clockwork or forging/machining parts. :Large-ish tweed flat cap, goldplated brass-rimmed glasses festooned with magnifying glasses and colored lenses on swingarms, most of which can be detached and stowed in his vest. Carries a Webley service revolver in .454 caliber in a crossdraw holster on his left hip, usually at least partly concealed by his long vest. There's a pair of saber harness straps hanging from his belt, but almost never is a sword to found about his person unless he is on a case that requires such, or in uniformed regalia for a ceremony. Is deadly with a sword in any case, which is often a bit of a surprise to his enemies, being what he actually is and does. Cavalry-type boots, often much scuffed from climbing around, under, on top of, and inside of giant clockworks, or building or maintaining sundials.

Thinking he could be just sort of "slumming" around the property, checking up on the weird readings he's been getting that seem to be affecting the city's timepieces, and happens to walk around a corner as the group is either arguing with the landowner or running away from or chasing after the miscreants.

Let me know if this fits.

*Carolus Linnaeus: author of Philosophia Botanica, a treatise of various specialized flowers and plants, in this case most notably those to be used in flower clocks.

MWBailey, I think your and my characters are going to get along absolutely spiffingly! they are practically identical! everything down to the love of marksmanship, hand to hand to hand combat and sword-play! They both love tech, they both come from well off backgrounds, they could be twins! they even both carry webleys...
