As the title. I'm not sure of any reasons preventing an upgrade, hence this topic  Smiley

The 2.0 version appears to contain some nice improvements...

This comes up occasionally.  I'd love to move to 2.0; the major blockers are the theme (it's not compatible with 2.0, so I'd need to spend some considerable effort developing a compatible theme) and the support scripts that have accreted over time (e.g. the anti-spam and anti-attack bots I run would need to be updated/rewritten).

At the moment, I'm putting that effort into being able to move off of SMF entirely; but since running this site is a "spare time" project, it's been slow going.

If you want to develop an SMF 2.0 theme that follows at least the spirit of the current theme (and hopefully improves on it!), I'll happily accept the help.

Also, posts like this are exactly what the Engine Room is for.

I'm happy to help in any way I can with the move off SMF. What are we moving to? Homebrew software? I could have a shot at a SMF 2.0 theme, but if you are planning to move off SMF I feel like my effort would be better invested helping move away from it.

Engine room, of course! That makes more sense, sorry Smiley (Time to use my new moderator powers!)

I am writing a replacement, but this is a slow process (spare time and all that... not many Round Tuits with a family and a 50h+ job). As in it'll probably be at least a year before I could get to a point of even considering going to production.

The major blocker for 2.0 is the theme: if you want to build an SMF 2.0 theme that's reasonably similar to our current theme, have at it!

I thought I'd better post to say I'm no longer working on the theme, and indeed didn't get far at all. Sorry, may have another go sometime!

I made some progress, but my home server has either gone down, or my ip changed and my (untested) Dynamic DNS broke. I'm not currently AT home, therefore progress has been postponed for at least a week. Again, watch this space...
