Hi there,

Maybe someone has already seen my last model on the French forum steampunk-fr.com
His name is in french "La Vis à Nuage". we can translate by Screwing cloud. The full size was built by Honoré Dartiguenave  in 1874
The idea was, after takeoff with bungee, screwing the clouds and fly attached on the clouds with the Wind

You have all details of the building on my website, sorry in french but with Google translate I think you will  understand
http://www.retroplane.net/flying-machine/page7.htm

The video, building and flights of the machine
http://www.retroplane.net/flying-machine/La-Vis-a-Nuage.wmv

Wings covering. Like elevator, covering is made with a polyester fabric

Wood tint on the fabric, mix 50/50 grey and red wood

The fabric is glued with a layer of hot melt adhesive

Then it's classical, work with a small iron

Trailing edge  made with steel cable, then sewing fabric around cable

zig-zag rib stitching

Leading edge... 260 small eyelets 2mm

Next... wood tint red with airbrush on the reliefs, ribs... and varnich matt

Last finishing on the root wings. Cutting stencil with CraftRobo

and sticking gold leaf

The machine finished....... and me

http://www.retroplane.net/flying-machine/page6.htm

And now........ the Vis à Nuage took the air!

Well, for now, these are only small jumps, with the bungee but permitting to adjust the settings.

More details on my website

Magnificent!

That is truly outstanding.

I too intended to use the word Magnificent! - but it does not seem enough for this wonderful device!

I have never seen anything quite like it. Quite Brilliant!

Thank's all. My other buildings are less crazy and more recent, for exemple Mira3 Czech glider: http://www.retroplane.net/mira3/page5.htm -  Nitra3 Slovakian glider:  http://www.retroplane.net/nitra3/page6.htm - Triplan Clément, French glider: http://www.retroplane.net/triplan-clement/page4.htm  and other on my website....
But my next project (stored in my brain Grin ) will be doing like the Vis à Nuage, steampunk style, all cover in copper leaf with rivelts....

I see you work often copper and brass. For all my etching and cutting copper/brass, I used vinyl for stencils, cut with a Craft-Robo/Silhouette Portrait, and  acid hydrochloric +  hydrogen peroxide
Put the stencil's vinyl on a side, and on the other side is full protect with vinyl

3x water + 1x hydrochloric + 1/2x  hydrogen peroxide

After painting and sanding

Utterly gorgeous, and somehow very French-looking. (I've always adored French fin de siècle illustration art.)

Thank's, but it's only my hobby, I have never sold one of my models and for me it's a pleasure to share all my work. I find it's always a pitie when you see a beautiful finished thing and when the author don't share how he does.

Oh my, she would be wonderful just for the staggering level of craft her construction and the heights of imagination in her design, but the fact that she actually flies as well...!

Beautiful work,

Yours in admiration,
