I opted for the island : D As much as I love old buildings, I love just exploring a place I've never been to before even more, and that would be even more fun with a massive bunch of like-minded people. I'm a simple person. Give me a bunch of nature and I'm happy. Though I have to say, all of the options seemed like fun.

Maybe not the "ultimate" SP vacation yet but about as close it as a group has gotten:  http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/events/the-high-seas-time-travel-cruise-aka-4th-annual-steampunk-cruise?xg_source=activity

That looks fun, on board. We did one of those "fun" cruises; years ago and the sea was the most amazing shade of blue, like the sky. I am in the UK where we do not get really, really blue. Went to Paradise, got covered in seashells which stuck to me like glue. I shed shell for the rest of the day.

There was a german couple, 3 brit couples and everyone else americans on their honeymoon. That boat literally rocked.

There's an airworthy Lancaster about two hours' drive away from the Institute. It just flew to England and back for the D-Day anniversary observances.

I would have an old manor house or Castle but with all "21st Century" devices heavily disguised or just hidden.
I want to ride the Orient Express!

Uncertain how SP this might be but I've often wondered why there has yet to be a luxury liner constructed that would offer accommodations below the 'main' vessel in a submarine-like transparent observation hull ?

Essentially suggesting a streamlined structure like a drop-tank on a WW2 aircraft but obviously something more substantial and thought-out.

Imagine the view from a cabin that has a floor to ceiling wall of transparent glass, the vistas seen in the clear tropical waters would be breathtaking as would the dark ocean waters lit by external electric lamps.

A consideration might be made for a sub-surface diving pool to allow scuba-divers to explore when the ship is docked in tropical waters.

That may be an expensive feat of engineering . Though there are those that would pay for the experience

Like a mobile under water hotel.

That would be groovy. The quaint mystique  and historical  ambiance with all the mod cons - just discretely hidden.
