I'd hate to have to make something I didn't want to in order to satisfy a customer..bit like working in a factory job you hate.
That goes against the idea of steampunk so much.
I'm not saying that to knock you, but I know from experience how 'bad' a commission can be (I now refuse to do commission portraits).
Hope your next one is something you can 'believe in', and be proud of!!!

Is the blade to be live steel? If so, there are many different types of blade steel, and the cheapest sometimes can be found right under one's nose.

I'm a bit selfish at the moment, just wouldn't mind working on my own stuff for a while.
It's a timing thing.

But there is also some pride in being able to fulfill a customer's wishes if you do a good job

Very nice! What steel? And what inspired the design, if you wouldn't mid sharing?  Huh

Thanks.
I like Medieval forms.
This loosely based on a war axe but without the helmet spike.
I already did one like that.
The steel is 1045 I think your ASTM304 equivalent.

Really liking the build!

Are the infills pegged, welded, or something else because that looks really nice!

Thanks, they not in yet.
Waiting to see if I'm detailing it.

Meanwhile.

It reminds me very much of the old snes RPGs.
Maybe secret of evermore or something similar.

How do you plan to heat treat? Oven or color based? Sorry, recently got a forge and hammered out a few things, working on building a heat treat oven, and can send you a fantastic tutorial if need to be.

I really like the fat bevel!

Yes I will gas heat and oil quench.
Wouldn't mind seeing your build tutorial.
I will get the edge more concave

For something you didn't really want to make, that is looking great. (like everything else you do)

I take it the wood is for a wall mount?

Is it heavy? Looks like it has a bit of heft, not that an axe shouldn't have heft of course.

Yes, heavy now but it will loose some fat by shaping.

I'm not going there now.
Full carved frame.

(Thanks Maets)

Starting whacking it with chisels.
