I have been  stumbling along   blogs on similar river   festivals while surfing the net. They  do look inviting. Sadly I am at the other end of the world

 ... though it is inspiring

You appear to only have one steam sidewheeler in all of New Zealand(?)  http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/group/riverboats/forum/topics/paddlesteamer-wiamarie-new-zealand

I am a little worried about the P/S Wiamarie and her pictures disappearing from the web.  IF you happen to have the opportunity to visit her please take and post lots of pictures.  Just in case.

Australia's Murray River is a bit closer to you than the Mississippi River and still has quite a few riverboats:  http://www.thesteampunkempire.com/group/riverboats/forum/topics/murray-river-paddlesteamers-australia

I have beenN on the Whanganui and th Murray Rivers - though sadly not on the paddle steamers . New Zealand is rather remiss [ absolutely  slack] on the tourism opportunities of such activities . I should make the pilgrimage  to do the steam trip.  The Whanganui is a beautiful  river

ps :  just to show off, my gt gt grandparents and gt grandmother used to catch the paddle steamer up the Whanganui river to Pipiriki as a regular transport means to reach their farm .

Even here on the Yukon River there hasn't been a more civilized way to travel since the last steamboats went away in the 1950s.

This is the forward salon on the SS Klondike.  We showed up in SP to take pictures and the rangers not only opened up the closed off parts of the SS Klondike to us but loaned us a nice ranger to take pictures.  Maybe next Yukomicon we can gather up a horde of the local SPs and make a bigger photo shoot of it.  The SS Klondike was an unusually large and well restored sternwheeler.

Lovely photo. They must have been quite charmed with you both turning up in costume.  It was very sporting of them .
