Couple of news stories struck me as having great potential for steampunk stories.  Not being much of a writer myself I thought I would put them out there.  Maybe they have potential and maybe not.  Or maybe they have already been used.

#1: Butterflies and other insects drink the tears of crocodiles and turtles.  The idea of one creature using the tears of another for nutrients seemed interesting to me.

#2: Heaviest element ever has been created.  The search is on for a stable element heavier that uranium.

Any thoughts?

I seem to remember that there's supposed to be a 'stable region' around the 120s or so. Alas, no one has made one like that yet.

Invariably, my story ideas are inversely related to the distance to some sort of recording medium, paper or PC...Wink

The heaviest theoretical element in existence is "Stupid" unfortunately it has no practical use in science or manufacturing. because of its uselessness, no scientist can even be bothered to research it.

Einstein was once quoted (roughly) as saying the only two infinites were the universe and human stupidity, and he wasn't sure about the universe...Wink
