I always heard that you should have at least one gallon of water per inch of fish-legnth. I currently have a kol (which is now about 3 1/2 inches long) and a danio (about an inch and a half long) sharing a ten-gallon rectangular tank, which leaves plenty of room for growth. They also have some rocks to hide in and a filter thingy that also aerates the water.

a grand idea. i apologise for turning this into another of my explosive animal rights rants. i just get a bit over sensitive about these things. regardless of the welfare of the fish, i think this is a beautiful piece of work. |

sensing an explosion of political views I ask that we keep the focus on the art. Alex, in respects to your viewpoint I will move Charles and Shadow to the larger bowls (1.5 gallons) and find some smaller shrimp or something to fill the A.O.C.A.E. for the time being.

Don´t go with the shrimp, a fighting fish is a much better compliment to the machine. Also as you have stated, it seems well adapted for life in fish bowls.

Alex, as much as I respect you, you seem to turn threads discussing art into rants about the treatment of animals. One gentleman to another, do you think you could perhaps keep the discussion on the art? Not a personal attack, but this fishbowl is simply too beautiful to be buried in arguments.
I adore this, and I adore the idea of a clockwork automaton fish. Perhaps simple mechanisms that work on the flow of water to move the fins and various body parts as the fish is propelled in a circular motion by an engine in the centre of the tank? I can imagine it now...

Another thought... If you think Charles isn't a fan of science maybe you could put something very bizarre in there. There was a thread about a fake human head and where to put it. This makes me think maybe you could find something odd to put in there.... not a specimen though.

I was talking to my sister about this and she lit up. She had three copper hinged body fish that were on a windchime she bought in mexico. They're perfect. I've been thinking about it all day and I think I can rig up a clockwork spindle that would revolve the fish around the inside of the bowl. I have a rough design in my head that would actually get them to "flip" their tails too.
Chin up Alex, they told Dr. Frankenstein he was madd for his ideas, but he succeded anyhow!!!!
