I wonder if Moffat is referring to The Brain of Morbius faces with the more than twelve thing...
Those were Morbius past regenerations
Not all of them were according to the intent of the director of the episode - that's just been the accepted fanon

Christopher Barry didn't have that degree of control over Who, it is Robert Holmes, Script Editor and Co-author who was in control.

I misremembered. it was Producer Philip Hinchcliffe who said, "...it is true to say that I attempted to imply that William Hartnell was not the first Doctor"

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but on 14th November at 21:00 BBC2 are showing The Science of Dr Who with Professor Brian Cox, followed by a repeat of the Never Mind The Buzzcocks Dr Who special.

Apologies if this has already been mentioned on this thread, but this year the Beeb have been releasing a new Doctor Who story each month as a series of ebooks.

Each story was written by a different author and was about a different doctor (1st Doctor in January, 2nd Doctor in February, etc).

They're going to be released as a paperback collection on 21st November (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doctor-Who-11-Doctors-stories/dp/0141348941) just in time for the 50th anniversary.

The full list of contributors is: Eoin Colfer, Michael Scott, Marcus Segdwick, Philip Reeve, Patrick Ness, Richelle Mead, Malorie Blackman, Alex Scarrow, Charlie Higson, Derek Landy and Neil Gaiman.

Slightly less excited about the trailer now, but it does seem to back up the theory that the Doctor might have started the Time War.

Yes he did, back in 1975, in Genesis of the Daleks...

Yes the Phil Collins Dalek was especially terrifying in that serial.

This looks rather promising too:

An Adventure in Space and Time: The Trailer - Doctor Who 50th Anniversary - BBC Two

David Bradley looks spot-on as William Hartnell (although he's over 15 years older than the man he's portraying).

It was written by Mark Gatiss. He was on twitter earlier complaining that some of the journalists who attended a preview completely ignored the 'no spoilers' request.

Yes, apparently a couple of years after the pilot episode Hartnell is replaced by Patrick Troughton and it turns out he's an alien, not human at all, an that there is this terrifying race of creatures called Daleks which pop up in future episodes later in the series.

Journalists are definitely not gentlemen.

Well that in one short swoop, both killed off one theory I had about the Doctors lineage, and confirmed the other. Interesting....
