A lightning storm in Athens, via Astronomy Picture of the Day: http://www.greeksky.gr/files/photos/atmospheric/20100628Thunders.htmThis is a photo sequence of 42 stacked shots, caught in Olympic Stadium, Athens during a severe thunderstorm. It only took me aproximatelly 30 minutes to capture 51 thunders.
Nine shots were destroyed because of the brightness of the thunders. See also the waterdrops from the drain pipe. They seem 'still' as they instlantly illuminated from the lightnings.
The answer to the crucial question: No... The big thunder didn't hit me on the head! It stroke a few hundred feet in front of me..
Canon EOS 550D, 28/6/2010 1:16 - 1:48, Shutter Speed 3.2 sec x 42 shots, Aperture Value 4.0, ISO 100, Lens Canon EF 15mm f/2.8, Focal Length 15.0 mm http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap100720.htmlExplanation: Have you ever watched a lightning storm in awe? Join the crowd. Oddly, nobody knows exactly how lightning is produced. What is known is that charges slowly separate in some clouds causing rapid electrical discharges (lightning), but how electrical charges get separated in clouds remains a topic of much research. Lightning usually takes a jagged course, rapidly heating a thin column of air to about three times the surface temperature of the Sun. The resulting shock wave starts supersonically and decays into the loud sound known as thunder. Lightning bolts are common in clouds during rainstorms, and on average 6,000 lightning bolts occur between clouds and the Earth every minute. Pictured above, an active lightning storm was recorded over Athens, Greece earlier this month.

The original was painted in acrylic on a wood panel cabinet I hand-made for the purpose of doing this painting. I'll be finishing up the cabinet when I return home.. I can't tell you what I'll be filling the cabinet with - but when the construct is done, I will have had a lot of fun making things to fill it with. Though the cabinet is not done, the painting part of it is, and it was lovingly, carefully scanned for truest color and detail, and printed as a giclee for the best, most highly-detailed and most brilliant reproduction quality (if you want to know about that stuff go HERE)

Here is a picture I drew of me and my wife in felt tip pen! Strangely, I drew it the year before I met her, and many years before I had heard the word Steampunk.

Wow. Haven't been around here for awhile to see all of the amazing art! Still working s-l-o-w-l-y on writing my book. This is my latest drawing of one of my book characters: Rudyard Cobbin, a Dandy with a Raygun~ Spy, murderer, double-agent, friend extraordinaire.

I love popping into this thread once in a while...it brings me joy. Here's my latest: Steampunk Princess The text in the little blue banner is customizable, that's just what made me grin at the time Airships Zombies on Penny Fathings Ok so his outfit is not very steampunk, but his penny farthing kicks it I reckon

Undeath from Above - the black and white (pen an ink on bristol) is the upcoming cover for Gatehouse Gazette #14. I don't work with digital much except for commercial/ad design/graphic design stuff. It tends to feel too much like work, less like fun... but, this week I dusted off my Adesso tablet and colored it up over the past few days, and this is the result:

This is my first real steampunk picture. It's for a costume I have planned. Some of you may recognize the character.

For contributors to this thread who are attending The Asylum in Lincoln in September please note that The Great Exhibition at The Asylum is making provision this year for 2D art. We have been able to borrow a set of artboards from another Science Fiction convention to replicate in 'real life' the very excellent service this thread performs in aetherspace.
Could attendees wanting to exhibit please PM me with expressions of interest, so thatch may have some idea of allocation of space.
I thank you, and now normal service us resumed. On with the show!

I've only done one painting inspired by steampunk (so far). It started as a random sketch, then I thought that I needed a new painting for my room. I wanted some steampunk insperation in the painting (the colours and theme fits in my room) and here's the result. Painted with aquarelle and gouache. Looks better IRL though...

That's gorgeous; I love the little wiry details in the upper corners.

I give up. Can't seem to figure out how to post pics. Sorry folks. Change the "\" to a "/" in the terminate url bracket, and you should have it covered... if you want the link to show anyway. If you want the actual image to show, just change url to img within those brackets.

Crossposted from the Valkyrie thread - http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,14987.0.htmlTwo of my latest designs. I can't draw to save my life so MS paint has to do! Conviniently using an element such as Cavorite to explain how they'd get off the ground in the first place, i've mixed contemporary period airship and warship designs. I'm not a big fan of flying galleons etc and i'd like to think that in a Steampunk world technological innovation would augment rather than completely replace existing technology.
