I wonder why they enable enlargement for one but not for others:

The word pagan came from paganus , who mean peasant . Its was a way to significate than christianism was the religion of the elite and paganism the one of the savage worker class.

''Trickster shows us how we trick OURSELVES. Her rampant curiosity backfires, but, then, something NEW is discovered (though usually not what She expected)! This is where creativity comes from—experiment, do something different, maybe even something forbidden, and voila! A breakthrough occurs! Ha! Ha! We are released! The world is created anew! Do something backwards, break your own traditions, the barrier breaks; destroy the world as you know it, let the new in.''

beyond2k - This is a super-late appreciation, but those photosets you posted a while back are really fantastic. Nice stuff!

I have a new piece to share. I just finished it this past weekend. It's a promotional image for Nova Albion, a San Francisco area steampunk convention, the theme for which this year is "Steampunks in Spaaaaace!" I started in pencil and painted the entire thing up in Photoshop, also using 3DSMax to mock up the airship (which was also painted over in Photoshop.) At some point someone here on this forum (I can't find whom!) noted that I painted mostly women and that I needed to do more dashing steampunk men. I specifically had that comment in mind when I painted this piece, so if you're still out there, I hope you like it!

I'm planning on being at the con too, if anyone around here might be local-ish! Smiley

And right after posting this, I got an e-mail from ImagineFX magazine saying that it's okay to share this image as well! Their latest issue (Feb 2013) just out on stands now (or soon) includes a demo I did on painting a steampunk woman:

The magazine features the full article as well as in-process video of the piece's creation (as well as awesome work by a number of other fantastic artists!)

Cheers!

Woah..love the idea of a spacesuit dress Smiley And the background and everything.. fantastic. Seeing things like that make me feel the need to open photoshop and start painting right away!

This is Kanzler Helmut von Wolfenstein, leader of The Holy Empire of The High Tatras, which is a dieselpunk micronation that I have created. The High Tatras is supposed to be in a "two fisted tales" type of environment, with mad scientists building superweapons, sky pirates with biplanes and zeppelins, mobsters with tommy guns and dynamite, private detectives in trench coats and fedoras, adventurers searching for lost civilizations and legendary artifacts with myterious powers, and corrupt businessmen and politicians plotting wars for profit.

Zeppelin Kapitan Fritz (whom I no longer use as a persona) has evolved into this character over time. If I ever have enough money, I will purchase a uniform similar to the one in this picture.

Here is Kanzler Helmut von Wolfenstein's backstory. It is very slightly political, I hope that is okay.

Quote
Kanzler Helmut von Wolfenstein was originally born into a family of conservative junker aristocrats in Prussia. During the Great War of 1914-1918, he was a cavalry officer and later a zeppelin commander. However, he was disgusted by the suffering and loss of life that he saw during the war, which he blamed on monarchism, imperialism, and laissez-faire capitalism. After the war, he left his country behind and started a new one, based on democratic socialist principles and located deep within the Carpathian mountains of Eastern Europe. That country is The Holy Empire of The High Tatras.

Its that time of year again! Not exactly Steampunk, but steampowered at any rate:

The Neches Belle

Done from, and taking great liberties with, an authentic period photograph of the Belle, for the raffle at the Bayou City Oldtime Music and Dulcimer Festival in Houston, Texas.

She was a packet boat on the cotton transport network that included  the Sabine, Neches, and Angelina Rivers (Yes, they were and in places still are navigable) from 1889 until 1897 when she and the company which operated her fell into debt, and she was tied up at a dock in Logansport Louisiana, where she burned and sank.

As with previous raffle donations for the BCOMDF, I have painted donations (this and one other) each of which refer to one or more popular Oldtime or Oldtime-style songs.

Cool, glad you liked it. Thanks for commenting!

It occurs to me that I posted my pro bono artwork for Nova Albion (local steampunk con #1) but neglected to post my pro bono artwork for Clockwork Alchemy (local steampunk con #2.) This one is a little more subtle in its use of steampunk - it's more in the costuming vibe than anything (as well as the small octtage in the background) but this year's Clockwork Alchemy theme was "Gothic Fairy Tales" and this fit.

This image was used on the program cover, which was the flip-side of the Fanime (Japanese anime con) program. Sister cons and all that.

Cheers!

Oh, my.

This is the sort of thing that happens when I'm messing around in a more-than-usually-cartoony mood:

I typically draw something in pencil first, then go over it it in fine felt-tip, scan it, reduce it, then clean things up, print it out, go back over it with felt tip again (hence the darker, heavier lines versus the grayed lines of the original piece), and then manipulate it so that all the inked portions are the same intensity (which I obviously have not yet done in this case). Maybe I'll stick the final version in here for comparison in a bit.

Today, I see a exposition about the painter and installation artist Jocelyn Gasse  whose later and some early works ,while more industrial than steampunk (excepted perhaps ''la porte de l'enfer'' , ''Feu de Fer'' and ''Dégradée de Fumée'' who are indiscutably steamy ), is still worth sharing here (website in French):
