I am starting up a new, Cthulu/ Lovecraftian roleplaying game here on the forums. I want YOU! Here is how the basic layout will work.

Basically, once we get rolling, there will be two threads. One where all decisions take place, and the other where we write about what happens. Here's an example. Say you want to investigate the local library to find an ancient tome. I physically roll a 100 sided dice, and set a mark as to how hard it is to acheive your goal. If you meet it, I say that you suceed. You then move to the game thread, and write about what happens. If you fail, you still write, but about your faliure. Every decision will be made this way, so mostly the game will be made up of smaller posts. After you find the tome, I roll and see if you decypher anything. I will not be a PC, so I can be unbiased as to what happens. Would anyone be interested in running it this way? I will be playing all the NPC characters. That would be one of the few times I would post in the game thread: Stage setting, and NPCs. Anyone interested still?

I will not be a PC, but rather a Game master of traditional sorts, meaning I roll dice for combat, and play as NPCs. The game will have two threads, one for the game, and one for the out of character play. Instead of just doing an aaction, like driving to an old house, you say that you want to do so in the OOC thread, like at a pen and paper rpg table. Because I will not be playing, I roll a 100 sided dice, and add bonus (more on that in the sign up thread). Then, depending on whether you suceed or fail, you write about that happens in the game thread. Your characters will be almost character sheets, with skills and the like to give you bonuses. It will be a slower paced game, but with larger, more in depth posts.

We will be using the Call of Cthulu RPG quick start guide, which can be found here for free: http://www.chaosium.com/article.php?story_id=87

Anyone interested, please post your character name, race, background, etc. DO NOT roll for your own skill numbers. I will do that to prevent cheating. But, as for your occupational skills (More about that in the quickstart guide) You can do that on your own. Anyone for it?

I'm interested, not sure about what character I would like to portray yet. If there are any roles that are needed I can see about making something to fit.

Btw, I see an anthro, is this going to be anything goes like GURPS, or were you planning a traditional Cthulu game (1920s)?

@Hobbes Its going to be a traditional 1920s using the CoC rules posted in the first post. I'm not going to comment on the badger except it seems decidedly out of place, that said there have been no comments on allowing anthros.

@Andrew Styles Apologies for not posting a character yet, its been a busy week. I'd be happy to post something tonight but if you could post something about the specific set up I will try to make my character relevant.

Unfortuntley, steamcowboy, your character is not quite fitting with the setting. I hope to have people try characters that they dont usually play. Would you mind making another, maybe a little more 1920s new england ish?

Here's my character. I am not sure what kinds of skills he should have, so I would like some help deciding that.

Character Name: Connor Fitzgerald
Race: Irish American
Background: Connor is a freelance journalist (of the intrepid, investigative, sometimes sensational variety) and amateur short story writer. Unfortunately, he hasn’t been particularly successful in either of these pursuits lately. He currently lives in a squalid boarding house and makes ends meet with a second job as a bartender in a speakeasy.
Skills: Need some suggestions for this.

If this is too detailed or too "powerful," I can rehash it.

*A process involving cutting the top out of a standing tree prior to felling and bucking; basically it involves scaling a trimmed-up standing tree with friction belt and strap-on spikes, et cetera. I can explain this in depth, but it's tedious.

Okay I just remembered that there's both mental and physical damage in Cthulu, which means psychiatrists/psychologists and doctors are usually needed. Correct me if I'm wrong, as it's been a really long time since I've played.

Also I recall that researchers like professors, students, and gumshoes are really important as well.

Anyways, I'll try a combination shrink/doc and flesh in the description/background through rp.

Name: Li Shizhen
Race: Chinese
Description: Slightly built and average height Chinese man in his 30's who looks much younger than his actual age. He wears a mix of traditional Chinese and Western clothes that don't exactly seem to go together as if he doesn't care about fashion, although each article is of fine if not exquisite quality.
Background: The youngest of a family with a long history of medicine connected back hundreds of years, this had allowed him both a wealth of knowledge and a lack of pressure in which to learn it. Being allowed to indulge his curiosity as he wished Li left China to travel and learn the different philosophies of medicine from his travels in the East to those in the West.
Skills: Medicine, Herbology, Psychology, Cooking, Acrobatics

Added military service in WWI for Edward; it seemed to stand to reason, and seemed odd for it not to have happened. This is not a sticking point, though, and I can do without it if need be.

During spring break, (March 25) I will get back into the swing of things. I jsut watn to focus on schooling at the moment. I hope you understand!

It will. Unfortunately, during the summer. I've been bogged down at school, and need to focus on that. Ask Stella or MW to forward you the message I sent them. I'm just taking a break. I hope that's okay. Will you all still be good to play in late may?

Hello all fellow RP-ers! My hiatus is ended! Not that summer has gloriously started, i will start being on the forums here more often than I used to be... and right around my one year anniversary here! Although I may be without WiFi until Friday, i would love to start up the ol' roleplays i was involved in, namely the Iron Heavenly, and the Cthulu/Lovecraft, tabletop-ish story monstrosity (no pun intended) That i though up. Is everyone still game?
