I have managed to do some limited plating purely by accident.  Through some steel into a vinegar bath I use to clean copper and brass and it came out plate in copper.  Dumb luck, more than anything.

Just found this thread, really fascinating stuff! When I buy my own home, I will commission a plate for the door of my library from you Dr Quack.

Looking forward to seeing the how the enameling goes too =]

Still life with Brass plates.

Photographing shiny things is hard.

Your work is magnificent.  Do you create your own fonts?  Do you sell the Custard Fuel Cell?

Thank you.

The fonts are just the standard ones that come with the drawing program plus a few I've found online.

I hadn't thought of selling the Custard fuel cells, largely because I assumed that I was the only person bonkers enough to power a machine that way.

However.

Now you mention it.

Just one of those motivational motto things.

I am thinking in terms of some kind of brass plate for my vehicle, 'Steam Powered' or the like.  Do you make such things?  If so, what do they say?  How are they attached, and how could the Custard fuel cell be associated with them in the public eye??

Marvelous.

Allow me to direct your gaze here:

http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,40175.0.html

The beauty of the method is that it can say anything you want it to and include any sort of border or decoration.

As for fixing, I can incorporate drilled holes for screws or bolts, the plate can be glued in place or even have a magnet fixed to the back for a movable 'Fridge Magnet' style.

Getting the public to accept a custard powered vehicle is a question for wiser heads than mine. Huh

Oh, now everything in my line of sight seems to need a splendid brass embellishment.  Alas, for us both, my reach exceeds my grasp financially!  I cannot think how to attach the Custard Fuel Cell to my  Jeep, and am not able to drill holes, but could you give me a rough estimate for a small brass plate with perhaps Gothic quatrefoil corners and a teapot with Steam Powered superimposed upon it?  And does the glue really work in the weather?  And do you finish the brass with some sort of marine varnish or something?

Thanks for your trouble.

Still working on a teapot based design. It's proving tricky to get a balanced layout.
Bare with me.

Meanwhile, a backplate for the 'Cum Vadis' design.

I'm happy to see your etchings, but really, Sir, bare with you?

It had better be a good teapot.

Ooops! Sorry! 'Bear', as in 'to endure'.

Although, one should never unnecessarily limit one's options.

I'm getting close to trying out the Enameling process, so I've gone for a fairly bold graphical layout as a base for the first attempt.

For scale, the disc is 150mm dia.

I will be fusing the glass powder with a hand torch in the first instance and probably doing a single etched cell at a time to get the hang of it.

Quite a few Youtube vids on this, and it doesn't look too tricky.

Why did I not think of etching one of these before?

After a year of solid service, my Cathode has expired.

The replacement looks like this.

No real reason for the shape other than the fact that that coil of copper has been lying around for some time waiting for me to find a use for it.
