Probably because that's about the only time I'm not on here and banning them as they register...

spam link in signature. I'm not sure if this is a legitimate forum member with a money making strategy or a clever spammer.

Yeah we get LOADS of those every day, some post on the forum, others just create the member account and then wait / create multiple accounts.

I've blocked a lot of the active IP ranges, and overall we are getting fewer spammers per day for now. Still the odd one gets by from a lesser used county IP range though.  But it's a never ending war, new IP ranges will come into play and we get another surge of spammers...  Undecided

Everyone keep up the good work reporting them when you see 'em.  Smiley

I think the user "ilikefajui", is a spammer. He (She? It?) posted something on the non-steampunk model building thread that is obviously spam.

The OP in 'Two types of steadycam' in OT reads very familiar.... from a usual suspect too for 'meat from a tin' posts.  Tried to report it to a mod but for some reason I got an error message saying, in effect, 'You posted from this IP less than 30 seconds ago.  Wait a while'.

Taken care of.  Somehow his *full* ban had become a partial ban that only prevents registering on the forum - which he already is and so could spam again...  Undecided

Another suspected one found... http://brassgoggles.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,38438.0.html

Again, told me I couldn't report it because I had to 'wait a while'....

Bugger!  Somebody else got to it before I finished banning them...  Cheesy

I was tempted to change their post message though. Something like " I'm a spammer with undersized genitalia".  Grin

Yeah; apparently that's a safety feature that's meant to prevent spamming…

Got him - hit with the ban hammer.

Thanks for reporting.  Smiley

I don't know what to think of this, but it looks like spam.

Didn't I see that exact post in Anatomical about a month ago?

It was in Tactile - and then shortly after it was in the "misunderstood spammer" thread.  Wink

That is the same damn spammer I've been banning every day for over a week now!  Banned about 6 accounts from him just yesterday, no doubt there are a few more today. Angry

He has a LOAD of spam domain names to use for e-mail addresses. He doesn't give up easily...  Roll Eyes

He seems to have a live hyperlink in his signature in his profile.  You may want to redirect that somewhere useful (or delete it) if you can.

Sadly moderators aren't allowed to edit account signatures. As he has no posts you'd have to go looking for the member profile to find/click on it, so it should be fine....

Banned member names are removed from the 'members list' on the forum, so the only place to find the spammer's profile is in the link in shoggy's post above. So it shouldn't be an issue.  Smiley

I can edit profiles so don't be afraid to pm or even email me if you see spam stuff you want removed.   It is one of the magical powers I got when that robot bit me.(it sounded like a good idea at the time.)

If we find multiple posts from the same spammer, would the Mods prefer us to "Report to Moderator" each individual post, or is it enough for us to just report one of the spammer's posts?

You can report all of them if you like.  I know before I ban i check and make sure most of their posts are gone.

There may be one or two other spammers in the next day or so - there was a rather large surge in the number of spam accounts in the last couple of days. It'll take me a while to get through them.
