Your seat looks like it should be quite comfortable with all that foam - does the gel pad go on top or is it hidden within the layers?

You need it.
It has no rear springs, commonly know as a hardtail frame.
It's buried within.

Been quite awhile since I rode on a rigid frame. Kidney belt required unless the seat is deep and soft.(or sprung)

That seat looks more comfortable than my sofa.

Great to see this project is back on the list. How do you find the time? So many projects going on!
