I get the impression these gentlemen have been around awhile, but this is the first I've heard of them thanks to the Propnomicon blog.

the video describes how to go about making a very impressive steampunk mask just using bits of plastic and paint layering. Even if you're not making a mask, it features some great techniques for beginners to add steamy details and rivets to your props without having to know a thing about metalworking.

Wow, I think I might be trying that at some point.

I'm just wondering if it would look a bit, er, camp if I do one in cream with half my face showing. Nahh. A bit Phantom of the Opera.

As I have learnt from my miniature designing days: you can never go wronge with adding rivets and tubes.

Like most things, I guess it depends on how you do it. I did a Google search for 'steampunk half mask' and found some nice ones.
