And here's my character:

Name: Morgan Redburn
Age: 28
Origin: Disinherited son of American gentry; a thrill seeker who ran afoul of his parent’s conservative lifestyle.
Occupation: Airship pilot; Morgan is notoriously bad with money and takes most any job that comes his way.
Cover Occupation: Airship pilot; he has no formal medical training and only rough knowledge of basic first aid.
Skills: Piloting, navigating, fencing and formal etiquette (from his upbringing), street smarts and brawling (from his life on the streets), some moderate skill with a handgun
Weaponry: Scottish backsword, Le Mat revolver (modified for use with cartridges)
Equipment: Morgan is never without his tophat, his absinthe, and his pipe. Besides that he lives by his wits; his personal effects fit into a carpetbag and are nondescript; he carries the basic toiletries, a compass, and a few pieces of clothing. He is always short of cash and besides the items already mentioned he rarely retains much of value on his person.

"Well, I don't really think that the end can be assessed as of itself as being the end because what does the end feel like? It's like saying when you try to extrapolate the end of the universe, you say, if the universe is indeed infinite, then how - what does that mean? How far is all the way, and then if it stops, what's stopping it, and what's behind what's stopping it? So, what's the end, you know, is my question to you."

Name: Joseph "Joe" Alfred Rooney
Age: 21
Origin: Lower-middle class Anglo-American. Born in Manchester but raised in Boston from the age of 3 onwards where his father made a decent amount of wealth from investment in construction projects. Occupation: Experimental Weapons and Combat-Assisting Devices tester
Cover Occupation: Medical Student
Skills: Excellent at 'quick-fix' solutions when things malfunction in a life-threatening way. Aside from that he has no particular mechanical knowledge. He has some basic medical skill that extends a little way beyond first-aid but is otherwise untrained and unskilled.
Weaponry: Experimental 'bolt bullet' carbine (fires bullets that administer a strong electric shock upon impact), Revolver, Dagger.
Equipment: Steam-Propelled Personal Flight and Manoeuvring Suit (a 'wing' backpack that allows him to fly for approximately 3 hours before refuelling is needed. Compacts for easy carrying and storage), Optical Enhancement and Assistance Device (a small lens on his right eye that allows him to see through clouds and other similar mediums). Has various other experimental devices he uses when necessary but the above two he carries most of the time.

Great! all we need is one more, but I'd imagine it's fine if several more want to join, and we can get started. I'll project Friday or Sunday (or sooner, if RL stuff around here permits) as possible starting times.

An interesting twist, in any case! PM me with your ideas, Miss Adler, if you wish, Or I can PM you in a few hours; whichever works best for you. This is shape;iong up nicely.

In RL, the aged parents want the tree up YESTERDAY   Wink, and of course they want me to do most of the grunt work  and decorating, as both are less able than the were last year (it's fun, I don't really mind).

Upshot: I'm more or less out-of-pocket, for the rest of the day, but only until about 8pm tonight. I hope...

I hope you don't mind me joining in. You're not far wrong if you consider Hawthorne to be a Flemming style Spy.  If Bond was written by Conan-Doyle.

Name: Lord Alexander Hawthorne
Age: Late Twenties
Origin: Earl of Halifax. Inherited his title early after his parents died in the first that destroyed is ancestral home. Now lives in comfortable rooms in London above his newly furnished Gentleman’s club
Occupation: Member of the Diplomatic Engineering Corps. Sometimes a spy, often a Diplomat, habitually an advisor on foreign policy to Whitehall.
Cover Occupation: Gentleman of Leisure. Owner of Hawthorne’s Gentleman’s club, a club for those who find White’s and Brook’s decidedly too political
Skills: Luck - Hawthorne has an uncanny ability to cope in situations he is not trained for; He has landed a plane with no formal training, disarmed a bomb by sheer good fortune and picked the lock to handcuffs to escape capture. But who knows when his luck might run out. Beside that he has his wits and charm to fall back on and if they fail, he knows his way around a handgun.
Weaponry (2 to 3 only, please): A small revolver tucked into the lining of his suit.
Equipment: Clothing for practically every occasion, a gentleman’s travel case for personal grooming. A pocket watch that can, if properly set be used as a small explosive charge. A bowtie that, when looped over a zip line, will support the weight of two people. A strongly weaved shirt that gives slight protection form small arms and acts as a protection against tragically unplanned stabbings. Impeccably polished shoes which, when activated emit a radio wave beacon that can be tracked by those with a proper receiver. Essentially random and somewhat inconsequential spy things.

Just wondering; Do Rourke and his Lordship know one another from a past mission, perhaps?

The original "experiment" thread will be the game thread; I'll post an opening scene in a bit (probably this afternoon), barring incidents on the home front (such as the aged parents needing care, or me braining myself with my nunchaku (long story) Wink).

I'm not sure, but if you use a thread that originally was used for discussion for the game proper, it may happen that people post in between without realizing this is a game...?

Why not open a separate game thread? That seems to be the custom around here.  Wink

thirded. All in favor, say aye; all against say neigh. ok, enough horsin' around, I'll set it up...

(nunchaku: practicing a behind-the-back manuever, and just like in that Jackie Chan movie, WHAM right on the bump at the back of my skull; luckily they're the hollow-bodied ones I made from two of those industrial shuttle spools that every single antique store the world over has a boat load of. Solid wood in those dimensions probably would have laid me out for a while Cheesy).

Yup. Been there, done that... Knocked myself out with nunchakus (solid wood) at kung fu training a couple of years ago. Not my finest hour!
And I remember that movie I think.

Spiffing!
Just wanted to remind you, people over here are in different time zones!  Wink
Here it's close to midnight.

And something more important: as member of the forces, Mary needs a military rank. I have no idea, which one that would be in her case.

Time: yes, that's why I specified, partly because I have no idea what time it is where some of us are. (I always seem to get it wrong). I don't really expect everybody to all be on line at the same time all the time.

Mary's rank: I was thinking probably first lieutenant. Uh-oh, did I forget it? Sorry, I'll rectify that.

Pardon the double post.

Miss Adler's post about timezones got me thinking, and I realized we could be here 'til saturday evening doing the introductions if we followed a rigid pattern. Thus, I changed it to a volunteer setup where people speak up (post) as they are able. Let's give that a couple or few hours, so everybody gets a chance to post before I move on and explain the particulars of the mission.

Better ideas are, of course, welcome.

No problem this time, I'd say, just try to avoid it in future. I'll probably be pretty lenient on that score, but some folks in my experience call it 'metagaming' and get all ticked about it. Best to avoid the problem if possible.

Its definitely something I plan to avoid; I was a bit rushed in that post initially and couldn't think things all the way through till later, which is why I made note of it. Metagaming is no fun for anyone, but thank you for your leniency.
