once upon a time, I made action figures, the Simpsons, Ren and Stimpy, even Dr Who ones, as prototypes for toy companies

When they were dishing out the creative talent you must have run round and re-joined the queue several times!! Grin

Of course he didn't run around. He obviously devised some kind of contraption to do it for him.  Grin

You mean some sort of Dok-Bot?

Excellent work, I'm thoroughly enjoying the progress.

Thank you, MAALEV, et al; just a quick shot of the critter in it's cave:

and a quick try out of some as yet un-modified British figures, on the outcrop above the cave:

Just need to sculpt some sort of pressure suit/uniform on them, and the other two figures...

If they're venturing into unknown, potentially-hostile territory, they should probably be armed, as well…

1/35th scale, or 54mm, if you prefer.

Don't worry, I'm sure all the figures will be armed, legged and headed where required.

Funnily enough, amongst the Simpsons action figures I sculpted were Kang and Kodos:

These are the prototypes, which had articulated tentacles- Playmates were too cheap to produce them with moving arms!

Finally had some time to wander down to the workshop again, and started in earnest on the figures equipment:

Oxygen tanks with safety cage (made from a set of old photoetch car headlamp covers):

Which are mounted on the backs of the figures, with a section of guitar string linking to their milliput masks:

Of course, being the British Army, the commander has to have a slightly different set up, his oxygen tank is belt mounted:

They look much better with their helmets on.

I'm sticking with the idea that there's some atmosphere on Mars, we just need a little extra oxygen to get by.

I'll sort out the arms next, possibly adding sleeves to the bare forearms. this could be interesting, as I've managed to loose one of the figures right arms- a mechanical replacement, perhaps...

If you include a machine to adjust the atmosphere, you will be doing just that.

I note with interest that you have given each of your figures a rather natty pair of 'Plus Fours'.

Is a group of lost Golfers the most effective way to combat the Martian Menace?

The figures now have some paint on them:

Doesn't show up too well in these pics, but it's a sort of brown/red drab, with khaki webbing. The CO now has a ray pistol, and the bionic arm is now a dark brass colour.

The helmets have a silver base coat, with the red/brown on top, worn away to show, er, wear and tear.

They still need detail painting and touching up, eyes, buttons, insignia, that sort of thing.

I've repainted the groundwork, added some sand, and placed the figures:

Another pass on the base colour, some accessories for the figures, and fitting the Martian to do...

99% of the way there now, figures done, now with completed weapons and oxygen tanks:

You'll notice the red glow, that'll be the Martian 'thing' in the cave, that our brave lads are hunting for:

Added an extra LED, in aqua green, behind the creature, just to give it a bit more depth.

(I'm rather pleased with these snapshots: not bad considering they were done in twilight, outside, with just the latent light from my workshop!)

More soon!
