From that picture in the garden, I'm struck by the rather familiar form of the top portion of the machine.

Can we have an image of it peeping over the wall, saying "Wot? No Martians!!"

I'm just staggered that you managed to take the thing to pieces like that.  And put it back together with no little parts left over!

Of course there won't be any bits left over. This has been designed and built by Herr Doktor! Not IKEA...

Go to you tube and find the song Ikea by Jonathan Coulton. Jolly amusing.

Right, one last update before the weekend:

Decals placed, and some weathering done; I actually used a product from MIG military models fantasy line called "Martian Dust"- even if it is just crushed pastel powder, how could I resist? Smiley

And the whole thing:

Next week, onto completing the interior! Cheesy

A standing ovation from the antipodes - another spectacular result.

And thanks for sharing with us.

Herr Doktor already has his imitators, and they are neither sincere or flattering. You can tell his doppleganger, he was born lacking an umlaut. Just be the best MAALEV you can be. Grin

Again, AMAZING WORK! Really love the look of it! So now the question, don't know if you ever mentioned it but, will you be building a diorama to put it in? If so, I'm imagining some kind of post apocalyptic scene... Thoughts running wild here! Cheesy

Thank you chaps, one and all- it still needs the interior finished, and I'm also not sure I'm done with the weathering, needs more dust! Cheesy

MAALEV- don't worry about growing up at all, as far as I can tell never quite growing up seems to be part of the trick to thinking like this! Wink

Wrecase- the diorama I have in mind is a circular section of Martian landscape, with red weed etc., and some British Martian Expeditionary Force figures, possibly sitting around a table, drinking tea, served by a Selenite bearer...

As humans may have trouble with the Martian atmosphere, perhaps a pavilion or gazebo with air locks.

Nice idea! Might I suggest to put the whole diorama under a glass dome when finished, depends on the size of the diorama of course!

What would something as hi-tech and clearly '20th/21st century' as The Mars Rover be doing on Mars BEFORE Herr Doktor's excellent, Victorian era, machine got there? That would be like  building a model of the Nautilus and having it in a diorama with the wreck of the Titanic.

The only way you could do it would be for Herr Doktor to re-design the Mars Rover in a Victorian/steampunk sty-lee (but then would anyone recognise it as the Mars Rover?)

Or have this as a preserved wreck discovered by the Mars Rover...

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I like both ideas - the crew taking tea and the rover discovering the wreck, but my inner Stiff Upper Lip rebels against the idea of anything British being discovered as a wreck...

I'd just like to know where those decals came from  Grin
