I found this little gem at Harbor Freight Tools of all places. They also had a compass and a Sextant. All for under $20.00 All brass fittings very nice quality and condiition. Nice little novalty items, or cheap enough to alter or disassemble and combine or make them into something else. I plan on using the Alidade and transit for use on a steampunk firearms peice I am currently working on. The prices online are about $5.00 more than they where in the store I visited. Also harbor freight has a lot of coupons out there too!

I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future.

I just picked up the brass Transit & Alidade from Harbor Freight for $14.95.  The still had the brass sundial/compass and the brass sextant (for $10 and $19.95 respectively) but I wasn't as interested in those...for now.  I'm going to be taking the transit & alidade apart and making a few small modifications to it, the first of which is to put a crosshair in the telescope part.
